Well if you didn't see any warnings posted by others on the use of the welded rockers...
Here's another reminder!!!
Needless to say I can't find my spare set of boat rockers and pushrods I packed up just in case this happened.
So I am hard down till I locate another set...of boat rockers and push rods!!!

The rocker and the push rod were on opposite valves.
I assume the pushrod didn't like the cylinder pressure when the rocker let go!!!

Ouch! I didn't know the welded rockers were an IH "weak link".

What RPM's were you running when it happened?

Sorry I don't have any C-130 trips to Aviano--I'd try to hook you up--

Happy 4th to you :)

I had wound it up a little to about 3500-4000 in first.
I think it was the transition from accel to decel that got it!!!

Thanks for the thought.

"Weak link", I dunno.

My first memory of seeing the inner workings of an engine is of the valve train in my folks' new '64 Chevy. Mohave Garage. Mid-summer. Exploded boat-style rocker.

Hope you get back on the road soon, Bill.

Happy Independence Day!

Hey put that OBW to work. :p

Hope you get it fixed soon.

Carey

Why didn't I think of that!!! ;)
I'll be right back...let you know how it goes!!!

It has to last longer than the original one did.

Do I need to pull the rocker shaft off the head before I weld it?
Can I just compress the valve spring to get the push rod back in?
Hey...can I just hammer the push rod back straight like I do with nails????

Ok

I hope someone does not take any of that seriously!!!!!
I have to joke right now because on top of the rocker breaking I was also robbed last night.
So I also need a new rear window gasket.
They were very nice and just cut the gasket and gently removed my liftgate glass and set it aside.
Then just took what they wanted...
just CD's and gas coupons... left my valuable stuff!!

Stuff happens, huh Bill? :(

I am a tad surprised that with all you've done & since obviously you don't have a locked garage > you don't have an alarm. ;)

I'm also a little surprised they were smart enough to 'unzip' the window & crawl right in. I'd think most thieves would pry open/break the wing window & go in thru the front doors or use a 'slim jim' made out of spring steel strapping.

Here's hoping Jeff gets you the parts soon & you're back on the (off) road soon.

Bill!!!!!!!

I just last night saw a set of boat rockers on Ebay last night.

Do a "Scout II" search. If you can't find I'll search out the link for you and bid on them if you can't from Italia.

E-mail me at stevebigler@comcast.net if you need me directly on this.

Figa fortuna!!!!!

Thanks guys,
They know we have dogs (plural) so I think they were trying to be very quiet. Breaking glass surely would have stirred the dogs. We have most windows open on the upper floors.
They may have been scared off early since they took so little.

I have a garage....I just don't put my cars in it...yet!
To used to living back home I guess.....
So now we will just keep everything out of the cars and leave them unlocked!
Hopefully they are smart enough to try the doors before breaking the glass!

Steve, got a set coming from Jeff and hopefully a 2nd new gasket from John Glancy since I just put that one in!!!

Thanks

Alarm is next!!!

There is an outside chance that I can get the parts to Italy for you

My Brother-in-law is a member of the Air National Guard, and he is headed to some base in Italy next week. I haven't talked to him about it yet, but he may be able to bring you some emergency parts. I have a '73 345 that I can borrow the rocker shafts from. I don't know what style of rockers this engine would have, but maybe they could be use of them until you get suitable replacements. Let me know if I can be of help.

I think the Air Nat goes into that base near Venice in the top right of the country... far from the toe of the boot.

Thanks for the idea. I still haven't decided what to do.
I'm almost to the point of just locking the center console and leaving the doors unlocked.
I don't want to try and get glass cut for it over here!!!

Triggers......

Bill rather than that... with all the work you did I'll assume you replaced the doorjams switches too right?.....

Link the screamer to both the "key on" as well to the door jam switches... so when the door opens it screams.....

Then leave the doors unlocked.

I was thinking the same thing.
Just leave the door unlocked but arm the system so I at least know they are getting in.
I could probably add a switch the lift gate also.
But these guys never opened a door or the lift gate so I guess I also need to get a mercury switch and hope I don't get a big wind!!! :D

I feel project creep all over again!!!

Damn Bill...That sucks. I hate being robbed. At least it wasn't anything valuable and nothing was broken so it will be an easy fix.

Still...the thought of someone else putting their grubby little paws all over my stuff...

I figured the guys must have liked the scout since they were careful not to damage it!!

So now we watch every car that drives by and wonder which one did it!!!
