Hey all, just a quick question. Ordered all my parts from a LL distributor but when putting on my outer rockers they seem to come up way too short on both sides. Is this normal and I'm missing a different part or this the wrong size? just really confused any help would be appreciated. (just test fitting the backside still needs work) Thanks, Sam
First you have the rocker too far forward. It is actually a cover rather than structure. The cut out portion goes between the dog legs Which is the part that curves down in the picture. I hope you are replacing or at least re-enforcing your inner rocker as well
Thank you, and I absolutely am. PO even said "rockers are solid, just a little surface and pinholes" that's when I knew to order both
Unfortunately I am realizing now I’m pretty much screwed. I ordered from anything scout and in the actual description of it and I quote “Complete outer rocker replacement panel” which clearly this is not, it’s only a door to door replacement. Quite a bit pissed off right off right now as these a clearly not complete, and because I ordered these pre project and the metal has some scuffing I don’t believe it will be returnable.
I just ordered the Full Length Rocker panels from SSS with the Black Friday discount. Hopefully they are decent quality. https://www.superscoutspecialists.com/rocker-panels-full-length-100wb-scout-ii Looking at the Anything Scout web site, they have what they call Outer Rocker Panel (Sure Fit HD) which come in full length. https://anythingscout.com/products/3505-rocker-panel-sure-fit-hd?variant=9192458501 What gauge are the rockers you received? They may be useful for some that only needs to do some patch work.
I didn’t measure and it’s not listed but I’m fairly certain they are the typical 18 gauge. I know this is not directly there fault but it said nowhere this is a patch and says this goes the same for there listed cab mount which caused a lot of confusion. Unfortunately the old front outer rockers are not salvageable so 50$ wasted. “Complete outer rocker replacement panel” was the description.
I agree that statement is misleading. They state their full length are 14 gauge. I would suspect what you received should be too. Would be odd if they used a thinner gauge. They may take them back if you are going to get the full length rockers from them.
It seems the gauge changed from 14 to 16 at one point. I'm just basing this on the two Scouts I've examined closely. My '78's rockers are 16 GA. I had a look under a friend's '72 and saw that they're definitely made of a thicker gauge than mine. I am guessing it was 14.
Just confirming what you already know. Those don't look like full length outers. The full outers go all the way back under the quarter panel at the rear and up past the fender in the front. They have markings to cut slots where the quarter panel and fender meet them. I just used these parts (full inner and outer rockers) from a Light Line distributor (SSS) and they are definitely not junk. I haven't measured the gauge but I'm guessing it's like Patrick said, by 1980 the gauge might have gotten a little lighter. The Light Line parts are generally the same as those being used in 1980. Hopefully you can figure something out, I've had nothing but great experiences with the Light Line dealers I've worked with (shout out to SSS and IH Parts America ).
