Looking to swap in-line 6 for a 345

Hello,
I have a 71 scout 800B with an in-line 6 that needs a rebuild and a "tractor like" four speed. I have always dreamed of putting a 345 V8 and 4 speed from a scout II in it as the scout II drives so much nicer than scout 800s.
Recently I was offered a great deal on a really solid driving scout II with a 345 and 4 speed. So now I have the opportunity to do what I always wanted but this is a much bigger project than I've ever done and I won't have the two scouts next to each other unless I buy this one so I can't compare details.
My question is:
-has anyone reading this done this?
-If so, what are the major obstacles I will hit?
-my major conserns are:
-different motor mounts
-transmission mounts
-Clutch opporation
-radiator compatibility or room for 345 radiator swap

If this is possible, the next steps I would want would be:
-swap the 4x4 transfer case
-swap axles
-add power steering
-anything else I can swap to make an 800 drive a little nicer
Is any of this possible or do I sound like an idiot?
Is there a website or YouTube channel that I can find instructional videos?
I have a mechanically inclined friend who knows scout IIs pretty well but he is not going to do the research for me so I need to have my ducks in a row before I buy the parts scout.

One thing you might consider is swapping the 800 body onto the SII rolling chassis. It’s been done before, although it’s been awhile since it was discussed on here. Only thing I remember about it is the SiI frame sticks out the back several inches. Might try a search and see if interested.

 

All that for an SV when an AMC 304 or 360 would almost bolt right in...

Will need to fabricate some engine mounts or maybe ask a light line dealer, not sure how the whole bell housing and tranny input shaft will work. 345 will definitely fit into the hole tho

Although it won't be original, I like the idea of keeping an IH motor in it. And I just got a really good deal on a running scout II. I've heard a lot of people put 350 Chevys in scouts and I know a guy who rebuilds 350s so I could gat a fair price. But getting the motor, trans, power steering and axles with disk brakes all for the same price as a rebuilt 350, can't pass that up. And when I'm done, I have three friends with scout II's that can pick the carcus.

 

The 6cyl motor mounts are different than the IH power plants. As someone already stated the 6cyl mounts are the same as AMC 304/360. So direct bolt in.

If you go Chevy same deal, you’ll be adding motor mounts.

 

The AMC six and V8 DO NOT! share the same motor mounts.
