For hardware, all sizes & grades, try also Conroe Bolt & Fastener, right on northeast loop 336, between HWY 105 east & airport road. Nice folks and good prices.

Also, to avoid shipping costs on POR-15, they carry it at Tasco Auto Color in Conroe. North Frazier, about 1-2 blocks south of Taco Bell.

Conroe Mill Supply also carries diamond plate, angle, flat & round bar, but selection is limited, call ahead. Located on HWY 105 just east of downtown by about a mile.

One other "Happy Tool Find", Harbor Freight has a great assortment of pre-cut heat shrink, multiple colors in assortment kits , ($7 for 60 pcs), and Chicago Electric Heat Guns for $10.00 in black or Deer Hunter Orange. Perfect for someone who is about to install a new wire harness.:D

This place has built two custom hunting rigs completely out of Aluminum for my family. He has also done rigs for alot of people that we hunt with. Recently he has built my roll cage (steel) and done some really cool custom metal work for the scout. I will post pics later in my thread on my 1980 Scout Build.

He started out building tuna towers and T tops for boats and has gotten into the hunting rig market as well. He started welding in the oil industry. I know that many people here weld on their own but for folks like me that are no good at it this guy is hands down the best welder I know. He is a bit pricey but you pay for the best

He has a small shop, does great work and has great prices. He has been building transmissions for a very long time. I have a very close freind that is MASTER TECH but only works on Chrysler Transmissions and David taught him.

This guy knows Scouts. He rebulit my scout and he has rebuilt George Clarks scouts, ford, jeep and other vehicles. You can take the transmission off and bring it to him or he can take it off your truck and repair it. Takes credit cards but if you pay him cash you get a discount. His place is close to Hobby Airport. Been in business for many years. I am fixing to take my Plymouth to him.

I had some U bolts for a Scout II made by these folks. Walked in with an old stock U Joint, guy measured it, pulled some stock then made four new ones while I waited. Fast service and good price. Looks like they deal with large trucks for the most part. They have lots of leaf springs on the shelves (large truck).

Had a Radiator crisis today and was referred to All-Cure Radiator @ Spring-Cypress and Kuykendahl. After explaining my dilemna on the phone, upon arrival a fellow named Ken Walked me right in and put a tech on my radiator. Found two new holes which must have come during initial motor pull, and had it repaired in about 15-20 minutes, while I waited. Let me stand and watch the process and when I went to settle up with Ken, he must have sensed my desperation and told me not to worry about it and have a nice day! The repair they did was spot on and service was great. Wouldn't expect to get a freebie every trip, but I did appreciate thier sense of urgency and understanding and will take any radiator and/or heater core issues to these folks going forward.
Just thought it was worthy to point out that there are still a few good folks out there!

Ted's Machine Shop in Conroe does great work and up front pricing.
They've been in business a long time and it shows.

All-cure did a great job cleaning my radiator so I definitely recommend them but at hind-sight I would suggest you specify that they NOT paint your radiator. Not sure what they painted it with but it clogged the fins and peeled in sheets that felt like latex...
Jared and I spent the last couple days cleaning it.

If you need a good drive line shop call Northwest Drivetrain Service on FM 529 in Houston.
They shortened and balanced my stock rear drive shaft for $120 which seemed sorta high but the darn thing looked brand spanking new when I got it back.
I couldn't be happier with the quality of service.

Has anyone done business with Precision Powder coating on Louetta in Spring? I'm looking for a place to have my frame done. Or if you know of another place that is good and reasonable in the north Houston area. I'm not having any luck finding anyone around Gause, Tx, where Bussy is so I'm figuring I'll have to haul my parts down here. Thanks.

I think I'm ready to send it to a painter. I've filled in dents, replaced floor pans, rocker panels, etc.... It's been media blasted and coated with a general purpose Sherwin Williams primer to prevent flash rusting.

I've talked to a few local shops in the Richmond/Rosenberg area, and haven't found any that want to take it on. They either do insurance claims, or full blown restorations.

I've attached a few pics to give you an idea of the current state.

Can anyone recommend an (affordable) shop that could do the finish prep and put a decent paint job on this?

Thanks in advance.
