My plan is as follows: Pull the crank and see if it needs to be turned or replaced I'm really debating just getting a kit and pulling the whole engine apart just so I know its good to go. replace the rear shackles/u-bolts and brake lines inspect the leaf springs and get a rear drive shaft (robbed that stuff for my 800 when the rear end fell out while I was driving but thats another story) naturally change all fluids I need to check and flush the radiator and figure out a keying situation I have none for it but that wont be to bad I know there are some other things Im not thinking about but any advice and tips are appreciated. I'll update when I make some progress and pics! |

Got the scout home and mostly clean, rats had made a nice nest under the hood. I started pulling things off the engine to get it ready to be plucked. Any suggestions on a crank? Hopefully I can just replace the bearings or get it turned, but if not I havnt had much luck on finding one, havnt looked very hard though. Same with the rear shackles I'm sure its not going to be hard to find some for it, but whats the deal with the cj springs? i hear they are compatable and can give 2.5" of lift, is it worth it?

I am looking at a rebuild on a 1963 80 pickup. the motor is not turning over so I was considering putting in a diesel, so I am interested in how your build goes, good luck

If you're going for a restoration why use Jeep parts?
Triangle lists the stock Scout springs, including heavy duty sets. New springs, shackle bushings and body bushings will net you a pretty good lift on their own. The Scout will be at its stock height, which while it isn't hard core wheeler high, is the correct (restoration) height. |
