GREAT RIG!

I sure wish I had my Dad's first new truck. 65 C1100 step side w/3 on the tree! And his first Scout 75 Travel Top.

If I was I missed it. Do you have a 266 or 304 or ?????

Do you plan to keep the engine and drivertain? There was a guy at Nationals a few years ago with C1200 Travelette with axles, engine and 727 out of a early 90's Dodge with 6bt cummins. Very nice fit.

It's 3/4 inch black iron pipe from Home Depot (about $12). I cut the threads off one end. Then I measured the width of the tailgate, subtracted the length of the hinge inserts, and marked the pipe at that length. I sprayed POR metal ready in the hole for a day and then I pounded the pipe in with a 3# hammer (the end of the pipe deforms). It is a very tight fit, but it goes in slowly. After pounding it in most of the way, I trimmed the end at the mark I made previously. I then used a hinge (tapping with hammer) to get it the rest of the way in...

Responding to a couple of posts here...I tacked the pipe in place, but it didn't need it...not going anywhere...literally had to beat it in place (which removed dents from the lower rail of the tailgate.

Mark,

The engine and drive train is fine and I'm keeping it as is. The engine was torn down and rebuilt about 20K miles ago and it had virtually no wear. The clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing were redone then as well. I just rebuilt the rear, when I converted the truck to 4x4 using parts from a 66 Travelall.

At first I was thinking you were making a sweet bedroom set out of IH parts!

I am enjoying watching the progress, I have a '66 Travelette that needs to be gone through and this is a very good lesson on how to go about it. Thanks for posting up.

Nice ride, looking forward to seeing it all painted. Great job on cutting down that bed! What are your plans for cowl repair? Be sure to post pics.
