Default It might be a Scout?

My wife's cousin gave my 5yr old son a box of old Hot Wheels and other cars and this was in it. My son immediately screamed Scout. From the side and rear, I think it is a Scout. The front, to me, isn't Scout. There is no underside, this is basically just a "shell."
What do you all think? Anyone else have one of these?
Ian

Wow, I don't think it's really supposed to be a copy of a particualr vehicle. The Door looks like a Scout 80/800, the lips over the fenders, and the grill are reminiscint of a Willys/Jeep wagon, and the rear looks to me like an old Land Rover Defender.

I'd say if the kid calls it a Scout, it is!

I've got a couple. It is a Tootsie Toy "Panel Truck". Most were red in color, and they were made in the 60's. I've paid $1 or $2 for all of mine at swap meets and flea markets. It is generally accepted that it is a Scout 80.

That isnt' a Scout 80/800. It is actually a Jeep Commando. I thought it was a Scout at first as well when I saw one in the in field at the food lion auto fair one year and asked the dealer who was a big time collector. He pulled out a big book and then commenced to educate me on how wrong I was and then showed me that it was clearly a Jeep Commando from the factory paper work. It was like I insulted him that I thought it might be a Scout but at least now I know I guess.

I get insulted when people ask if the Scout is a Jeep or dare I say a Ford Bronco, but you would think a Jeep owner would be complimented if you thought he was driving a Scout.

I think it is a scout more then a camando. The rear lights on a commando are rectangular up and down and sit lower. The body line on the rear quarters are definetly scout. the grill looks jeepish. the front fenders look a bit broncoish...
It looks like there was a trailer to go with it...

I get "Hey, I like your J**p" comments all the time. My stock answer is "Didn't your Mama tell you not to use 4-letter words?"

My boys(12&5) think it's hilarious to call my Scouts Broncos. They'll say, hey Dad, nice Bronco. Comedians. For my house, we'll continue calling this toy a Scout.

They made 2 different styles of them and one was a scout(not the one you have)the bodies are the same with a different front end.The grill looks like a scout 80 and even has an IH in the center of the grill.I will try to get a good picture of one.

Jeff, you are correct! I didn't look at the big pics of the original post until now. My grilles are S80 style, and I never knew they made them otherwise. Cool factoid.
