Default 1974 pick up new purchase

Ok, well I should not have done this but did. I just bought a 1974 1/2 ton 2wd automatic with a 401 in it. It is suppose, suppose to be rust free and clean. The original owner died about 2 months ago and he kept it inside and used it very little on the ranch in Wyoming where I got it. It is now on a truck headed this way. Should be delivered some time Sunday afternoon. It was a steel so could not pass it up. Guess we will see when it arrives. It always makes me nervous buying stuff sight unsean or at least with a couple of pics. They could have been 10 years old for all I know, one does have a date on it. All the original paper work manual etc are with it. so here are the only pics that I have. I will post more when it arrives

Darren,

You really should stay off CL, its starting to eat away your Scout budget and space budget. Really nice find, looks like it might even have dual tanks, but since I can't see the PS, I cant be for sure. Otherwise looks clean, and if you don't want a pile of junque, you can park it at my place, the others don't mind sharing IH space with other IH's Nice looking truck, now if only I could find em like you are I ......

Ok got a call and the driver says I will be there in a hour. The truck came and unbelievable how clean. The box has it's share of dents. Still has hay in the back fresh off the ranch in wyoming. I drove it about 7 miles and it runs like a new truck and so quiet. No rattles or anything. The 401 has plenty of power. The underside is great. It has for sure been taken care of. The am radio still works and all electrical. But here are the pics of it...

Here is a pic of the 401 engine and the inside of the box. The outside of the box I would just replace because of little dents if I elect to restore it. But I think I should just leave it as is and drive it. It is a 100 automatic dual tanks, gage works on both tanks, power brakes, auto..no power steering..but all n all very happy wit it. Also noticed it has a new radiator.

Nice! My dad had one of those trucks, saying the 400 has 'plenty of power' is understating it. Even though he was in his 60's he had a great time dusting off guys in V8 Mustangs with his. Don't let a Jeep guy anywhere near it, the engine is probably worth what you paid for the truck.

That is a great looking truck!!

Pop the glove box out, depress the 2 side springs and pull forward and it'll drop down. You may still have the small LST taped to it, and check the cowl behind it.
