i build all my cages for myself and customers out of 1.75" x.120" wall tubing. ill use hrew tube if they dont want to spend a lot of money and if its not destined to be a rock crawler. i prefer DOM or on my last cage for myself i did chromolly. 1.75 is good for all the main bars and you can use 1.5" .120 for the lateral supports and such that wont see any impact. tube is made different than pipe, dont use pipe.

Adam this has been covered alot, but I also use 1.75 .120 wall HREW. DOM is good, but you Probably aren'tbuilding a comp rig so HREW will do fine. I personally wouldn't use pipe, but several members have cages out of it , and seem to take a beating without any problems. Chromo is just way to $$ for a trail beater.

I just got 8 full lengths in. 2.22 a foot to a shop with forklift. The more you buy the cheaper it gets though. I would guess for two or three lengthswould be around 3.00 per foot.
