Default leftovers!

btw i have an idea i wanted to pitch to the group. i want to put a truck together for a kid who just turned 17 and got his dl. this kid is my neighbors son. he has saved some money from his job( not much) and his parents might be able to help. but i would like to get his something cool to drive. does not have to be any thing super nice just safe. can be a fixer upper just has to be driveable. his parents are hurting right now for extra money. and this kid deservs a break. he just beat cancer and a long drawn out court battle so he and his sitter could live here with their dad not with there crazy mother ( really she is on meds and in and out of crazy ward).
so any way i think this kid deserves a break and needs to enjoy being a teen driving. so i ask this can the gcb put together a truck for him. 4x2, 4x4, scout, kb, travelall... don't care. some one donate truck( even that doner you have out back striped down) and then every one else clean out the garage of extra parts. ect. see if we can build a truck from leftovers. i'll put it together at my house and do the heavy lifting sot speak on resto work as needed. then present it to him when done.
so what ya'll think??? up for the challenge??? or am i crazy???

Default leftovers!

I think you're nuts, but thats the fun part of life... right?

SOunds like a good cause and could be a good club project, I don't have anything to donate as i am trying to build up a stock of parts now, but i have time.

Almost forgot, I still have your battery charger and need to get that back to you next time i'm out your way.

I have a completely rusted 78 I would let go for $500 with an extra tub. I have taken some of the sheet metal but the drive drain is complete. I have replaced the starter, rebuilt the carb, replaced the plugs, fuel pump, points, condenser, cap and rotor. Compression varies on the right bank and it has no compression on the left bank. check out this tread

http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...592#post577592

I still need to get the tilt column out of it but I have non tilt to replace it with. It has d44's with 4-speed trans.

I would not need to be paid right away. I would keep the title until paid in full. If I did not have so much invested, I would donate it but I just can afford to give it all away.

sounds good to me. by all means you should and will get paid for it. can you post some detailed pics of the problem areas. and start a list of what this truck needs to hit the street. besides a rering kit.

I believe this is a good project and something a club like ours should be doing as form of stewardship and am willing to offer some of my stash of stuff, knowledge and skills as needed.

I can lend a hand. I know a thing or two about these trucks. I have a source for some parts that I might be able to tap into.

I would be happy to help with some parts if I have what is needed.

I would be willing to donate $100 to help cover the purchase as well.

talked with his dad they are onboard with it. they want to talk to him about it. the deal will be that he pays for it all. and gets his hands dirty as much as possible to help it along. so the plan is in full swing. i love the responce from everyone so far. i know you all are busy with your own projects. lord knows my to-do list is longer than i have time left on this earth. but i'm gona go for it. any one who helps will also be in my debit. not sure what thats worth but i will pay back in labor as much as i can. to help your projects along. as i do not know scouts. i will rely on some of you for that tech info. so now we have a truck. and a mission. all we need now is a to-do list and a parts list. and we can start marking thinks off.
