Default Transmission Mount

Recently installed the transmission mount on my Scout II w/ 727 tranny. The old one was shot and only finger tight.

Installed the new one and now my car shakes like crazy when I give it gas while parked. Perhaps the mount is supposed to float and not be too tight?

Forgot to mention this is the mount sold by IHONLYNorth

No, the mount is not supposed to 'float' You can use a hard poly mount even.

Check your engine mounts. Firming up the trans may expose a bad one [or two] on the engine.

That's what I was afraid of. Any reason not to drive it around town on short trips?

I'm gonna jump on the motor mount band wagon aswell. I experienced the same problem after installing my new RPT trans mount. I took a look at the motor mounts and it was obvious that one of them was bad. SO I replaced them with the RPT rebuildable mounts and viola! no mo shakin. Good Luck.

D. Webb,

Thanks for the info. I have the RPT motor mounts as well. What is the procedure to replace them? It looks to be difficult and like it will need to life the engine 3 to 4 inches to get the new mounts in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've used both the engine and tranny RPT mounts. I could slightly tell the difference with the engine mounts, but when I replaced the tranny it was a big difference. At higher speeds you would feel much more vibration. If I would do it again I'd stick with the standard tranny mount and do RPT just for the engine.

Are standard trans mounts available anymore? Where?
