![]() Used the rust encapsolator to seal the seams. Hopefully I will be able to start priming in the next couple of weeks. Temperatures are up and I will have some time off to get some work done. ![]() I will be shooting Rust Defender by Clausen for the seal coat. Anyone else here use it before? |

Started priming today. I under estimated how much primer I would need. I am not sure how I like the rust defender stuff. I found that epoxy primer sprays much nicer. It might by my gun also.
![]() ![]() While this is drying im going out into the 90 degree sun and start preping the rest of it for primer. ![]() The rust defender may not spray well but it sure sands nicely!!!

In order to finish the frame cleaning and painting I removed the 304 for better access. While it is out I cleaned the hell out of it. I plan to redo the gaskets ect.. on it.
![]() ![]() Need your opinions. This motor ran fairly well rior to being parked. Burned a little oil and leak a lot of oil. How far do you think I should take this thing down. I dont want to do a complete rebuild just make it go for another 130,000 miles or so. Should I re ring it will I am this far or just seafoam it and be happy? |

You are making some smoking great progress!
![]() Might be worth pulling a few of the rocker stand bolts. I've *read* that if they aren't sealed, it can suck oil through the threads. If the threads are clean, then run some sealer on all of them. That may reduce the oil burning. You may be able to get by with just gaskets, seals and some thread sealer. ![]() Good luck, and keep on rocking the progress. Great work!

thanks, it sure doesnt feel like progress. I planned on doing the rocker cleaning prior to re assembly. Im just going to throw some new gaskets in and replace the clutch, throw some paint on it and call it good.

Clean, clean and more cleaning. Spent today scraping and brushing all the crap from the motor mounts and the rest of the various stuff associated. Rockers are soaking as we speak.
![]() ![]() I also ran into this on the underside of the intake manifold. I am assuming that this is just an expansion plug of somesort. It was totally buggered. Not to mentioned the pound of carbon goo that came out. ![]()

Thats how my intake manifold was too. The black crud looks like it is coming from the EGR passages. I had to drill the carbon out of mine. The welch plugs are available for a few bucks for all of them. Its a good idea to replace all of them as they rust out and you will get a nice vacuum leak.

This weekends progress. Last weekend I spent cleaning the 304 that I yanked in preperation for a repaint and new seals and gaskets. Was able to get everything painted. I need to wait for the seals and gasket for payday.
![]() ![]() ![]() I also made a lifting rack so to speak to lift the body from the frame. Its adjustable front to back and left to right to find the perfect balance spot. Hopefully it works when the time comes.

Jig or tool that I fabricated work really well. Easy to balance and lifted the body from the frame quickly. This is one fabed up tool that I will keep around for awhile...
![]() I like this stance. Maybe I should have more lift added in.. i put it on jack stands after this picture. Little to much weight there for those saw horses.![]() Im much happier now that I have some things done and nearing completion.
