Hi All,

I got this via e-mail, too far for me to chase, but maybe someone else might be interested. It's an M-3-4 / FFN fire engine.

Hi Dave,
That M5 dump belonged to Frank Buck in PA. It went to a guy in Virginia years ago. His website where the M5 is pictured has not been updated since 1999.

Good to know your still lurking here abouts. I was not really going to look into that truck. Thanks for the info. Good to know someone is taking care of it.
Hope all is good.

Looks like a quarter track race car minus the airfoil.
Seriously thats one heck of a brush buster/cattle guard /brain protector.
Maybe it was used as a penetrator to vent garage fires. It could do that.
Wonder if the drivers ever thought about the thinking behind adding a roll bar to a beast like an M3 and what the need was for that pre planning.
I would hate to be the one to roll a full ready to respond M3, that would mess the turn outs up and ruin someones day, my guess is its more for looks than actually keeping 7 tons of steel from squashing down to the floor boards.
Should be an easy reverse engineering back to a very slow and practical military fog truck.
Looks like a very clean truck should be saved.

Did you notice Sean they cut the back down like the one I had. Seems common when the departments want to use them as a brush or stand off rig to lower the center of gravity and bring the reels down lower.
That probaly has an added 300 gallon water tank like mine did.
Its fixable but not real easy. best to keep it as is and restore it is a civilian apperatus.
Makes the survivors like yours rare. And like a M151 Mutt yours has not been cut!

I did notice that cut down tank Dave. Interesting. I imagine it's a little easier to see behind you without all that steel in the way too. But to me the reels look like they're at the standard height. Hard to lower them as they're only inches above the water pump as it is.

It does look pretty straight and clean though. Certainly worth saving.

Nice to know my truck will be a little more rare... especially restored to original condition.

Tony,
Add some pictures of how the mirrors are mounted to the firewall!

I give up finding the right ones and got a long adjustable one.
