Default Steve retires from Greenville Police Department

Steve retires from the Greenville Police Department today. They had a pizza party sendoff for him. I attended as did his daughter, we had a great time as they told lots of stories from the old days. The Chief had very kind words about him and I think he may have gotten a little misty eyed as she spoke. I have given him a list of "things to do" in and around the shop , but all he did was laugh. Don Howell now has company, maybe they can get together and be grumpy old men reborn.

Here Chief Wilfong presents Steve his Department Statue, he also received his service weapon ( a nice Sig Sauer Auto ) and his badge. 27 years on the streets and T.J. Hooker hangs it up, crime is bound to increase. Congrats brother.

Congratulations Steve. Twenty Seven years on the street is a testament to your great character and dedication to public safety - Well Done! I'm glad you were not a cop when my cousin and I were 'having fun' in the Greenville/Greer area back in the mid '60s in the vicinity of the Clock Drive-in.

Ummmm - You got pizza, badge and a gun. All I got was a lifetime access to the university's email system and free parking if I ever go back there. Guess that's what taking the easy route gets you. I hope we can get together and rock on the front porch, drool and babble and see if we need to change our Depends. Life's Great.

Take care,
Don

By the way - I suspect your new job will be more time-consuming that your old one! Mine is.

I checked with Greer PD Don and they said they had a good bit of unsolved crimes left over from the 60's and that the statute of limitations had not expired on most of these,..might want to detour around Greer for a while longer yet.

Steve,

Congrats on making the transition from tired to retired. I guess like most retired, you will get bored and find lots of hobbies to occupy your time. Thanks for serving!

Nate he even said today , he is going to "bundle". I was shocked that he even knew what that was,..so look for Steve on the internet soon, said he was going to call them next week and ditch his dish to go with the phone company for TV,phone and internet. He has big plans to get the 73 finished and get going on that Spirit of 76, when I told him he needed to do a "progress report" to me via the phone each day, he told me to "keep dreaming trucker boy".

That is great news! Congrats to Steve!! I'm sure he'll stay busy with all that old iron on his property.

Bruce/Steve, I think my '66 Fairlane was getting too well known in the Greer area, so I'm still hiding it. Maybe I'll get it out of mothballs some day for a nostalgia tour of Greer.
