The lift is a Derek Weaver Pro 10 10,000lb. I believe its a rotary. You can find all its info here: http://www.derekweaver.com/html/products.aspx?id=18 I paid $1,995, but looks like prices went up the first of the year. I picked it up and installed it myself...so I couldnt tell you how much shipping or installation would be. But I will tell you it, and the miller 180 mig, are the best investments I have ever made toward shop equipment. Makes everything so much more enjoyable. Quote:

do you plan to brace that lower shock tab? it looks like it will end up bending with hard use, just being 1 flat tab sticking straight up.

The tabs are made from 3/8" steel. After I welded them on the axle, I pulled on them with a 24" crescent...they felt very stout. But you may be right. It wouldnt take much to brace them and that sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

I started cutting out rusted areas in the bed of the Scout this weekend. Here are a few pics of the before, and a couple of the after on the right side. I have the left side cut out, but I dont have the new metal in it yet. I used 2"x2" angle iron and 2" square tubing to replace the rusted areas.

I think your write up is great. I am planning a power steering conversion for my 66 (4 banger), and want to use the scout II gear, pump, and brackets. After researching, it is suggested that a early 70's ford 1 ton box is easiest. No problem. But if you modified your frame, and had to fab the angle iron, could this not be done on a 4 cyl. set up? maybe I am missing something. Your pics for one, I was able to see maybe half of them. Is that on my end or yours? Would love to see the steering gear modification pics, if you could post them again, or possibly email to me, it would be greatly appreciated.
It just seems that if you had to grind off everything, fab some frame modifications, and line up the II gear,.....help me understand. BTW, im also doing an axle swap (d44's off a 78 scout II), 4" spring lift, and a hydroboost conversion. Can I do what you did for the steering? Thanks.

Not sure why the pics arent working, they seem to work for me. But...Yes...you can do exactly what you're thinking with the setup you have planned. The 4cyl steering column modification is a little more involved than the v-8 and the inner tub is different, but it can be done. I emailed you my pics plus links to Damian's (D&C) build. He did exactly what you're wanting to do. On a side note...I finished the rust removal and repair on the other side of the bed and began modifying the rear c-channel (where the back bumper bolts) in preparation for mounting my rear winch bumper and winch. I should have some pics in a few days.

I cut out the driver side floorpan yesterday and installed the new floor pan. I still need to cleanup the welds plus cut a couple of drain holes and the hole for the fuel tank selector.

I snapped some pics of the work I did this weekend.
First I started on the passenger floor rust removal. I elected not to replace the whole floorboard like I did on the driver's side because it wasnt quite so bad. But it did have multiple holes that needed to be cut out and replaced. Here are the before: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And the after: ![]() ![]() Then I moved to installing the new body bushings and bolts. I purchased a poly bushing and bolt set, but about 1/2 of the bolts were too long, so I need to make a trip down to the local hardware store to get the right length. I also purchased a set of viton 1/4" thick washers to go under all the steel washers. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next I worked on my brake mastercylinder. I used the 1967 Corvette manual 4-wheel disc MC. It was pretty much a direct bolt up other than needing to put a small bend in the fenderwell/battery tray for clearance. I used the stock 800 rod and boot and just pulled the retaining clip out of the bore on the MC and placed the rod's flange under it. ![]() ![]() ![]() After this I installed the borgeson joint on the end of my steering column shaft and installed the column back in the scout and attached it to the steering box using another borgesson joint and a peice od D-shaft. Everything lined up good and worked well. But I did forget to take pics of it before I pulled it out...sorry. I will take some more after painting. This is the only one I got. It is a pic after I finished welding the joint to the column shaft. ![]() So when I was done with all this, I decided to have some fun. Check out my new steering wheel. I used a grant steering wheel and a scout 80 horn emblem. Pretty cool huh?
