Hello my scouts wipers have a mind of there own. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. Sometimes the wiper motor turns em fast or slow. So i am going to clean connections today and see of that helps. Can anyone tell me if there is something I should look for or do that is a common problem? Do I need to pull the wiper motor and inspect in somehow? Or is that a waist of time and should just buy a new one? Also can we buy New wiper motors not used anywhere and how much are they? Thanks.....

you can pull the wiper motor and clean it up, make sure the brushes are good and move freely. i was working on getting a saturn motor to work till i found out mid 90s jeep cherokee motors will work. so that's my next adventure in wipers. if you are not comfortable pulling the motor apart there are electric shops that can clean and rebuild em for you.

You should also inspect, clean and apply dielectric grease to the bulkhead connectors. Then remove the wiper switch from the dash and freshen up all connections there also. In fact I'd do this stuff before removing the motor, since it's kind of a pita to get to. It might make a big difference.

Thanks guys I cleaned the whole motor inside and out and cleaned all connections. It seems as though it had a bad ground wire so it would only work when it wanted to so I made a new ground wire and it seems to be like new or close to it. It does have a little more speed to it now. Not as much as I would like. Is the cherokee motor any faster that would rock? THanks for the info...

I had a similar problem when I installed a delay wiper switch on mine. But after removing the motor and cleaning with Electric Parts Cleaner it worked fine! But with the new delay switch mine work much better and faster. I would recommend they delay switch for ALL Scouts. (Unless you want to keep bone stock).
When I was having a problem SSS was very helpful. They told me to remove the motor and try and run on a battery charger. 2amp for low and 10amp for high. If it works the motor is OK. This would tell me if my problem was in the switch or the motor.
