Default dana 44?

I have 2 79 scouts both with 345 and 727 auto how can I tell if they have a dana 20 or 44 or could they be something else, I think they are both all stock
(I am going to part one out and may have some parts available in northern MI if anyone is interested)

taken from the FAQ
Identifying Scout II Front Ends -- Dana 30 vs. Dana 44
As a rule, 1971 - 1973 Scout IIs will have the drum-brake Dana 30, and 1975 - 1980 Scout IIs will have the disc-braked Dana 44. Most of the confusion comes in the 1974 model year, when the conversion to disc brakes occurred, as well as the transition to the Dana 44. A 1974 Scout II could have left the factory with any of the following:

1) Drum Brakes on a Dana 30
2) Disc Brakes on a Dana 30
3) Disc Brakes on a Dana 44

Hence, the presence of drum brakes is a definite clue that you have a Dana 30. Disc brakes alone, however, are not sufficient proof of a Dana 44.

The Dana 44 diff cover is distinctly asymmetrical when viewed from the front. It is significantly wider (taller) on the passenger side. The Dana 30 diff cover is more "square-ish" and more symmetrical.

Further, the passenger-side front leaf spring is mounted to the axle tube with two identical U-bolts on a Dana 30. The same spring is mounted to the "shoulder" of the differential housing on a Dana 44, forcing the use of an inboard U-bolt that is both wider and longer than the outboard U-bolt.

well, since the Dana 20 is a transfercase and a Dana 44 is an axle....

If they are truly bone stock, and provided no original owner special ordered something REALLY weird...

They should both be D44's front and rear, with discs in the front and Dana 20 transfercases.
