Default A very silly question...Try not to laugh?

I hesitate even asking this question amongst such IH knowledgable people but I am dying to know the answer.
Here it goes... I have a 79 Scout II, 345, with Air Conditioning (AC). I noticed when running the heater in my Scout the warm air does not seem to flow through the same vents as the AC. It gets nice and warm and is semi effective through the defrost but not the vents. My question is, do I need to run the AC fan to get the warm heater air pushed into the cab? If so, does this function use the AC draining power to the engine?

By the way, it is sunny and 78 here in So Cal, so needless to say, a heater isn't my top concern.

Thanks to all in advance and hope this question gave you a small chuckle...

The AC is a completely seperate system from the heater. The heater has ducts that dump to the floor and to the defrost and that is it. The AC system is stand alone for AC only.

When I first got my Scout, 27 years ago, I was also confused by this, so I ain't laughin. The A/C is an entirely different animal from the heater. There are three slide levers on the dash along with a 3 position ****ch tha controls the heater/defroster. The bottom lever "AIR" controls the amount of flow through the vents, even with the fan on. Open the "AIR" control and it'll be hotter than hell in a very short order as long as the rest of your system is working properly

Yep, slide the AIR lever all the way to the right & it'll draw outside air & it'll get hot in the cab a lot quicker. I believe it's the top lever tho' ... least it is in my DD, middle is temp (hot/cold) & bottom is defroster/floor. Mine maybe set up 'backwards' tho' as I haven't checked it & no telling what a PO may have done.

HTH,

If the defroster is not working well it is possible that 1 or mor of the ducts are not compleatly connected

Yep, The AC is a seperate unit from the heat. Remember we are talking about late 60s early 70s systems. I added a heater cut off to make my AC work a lot better.

I takes about 10 min. to install just go to your local NAPA and get a 5/8 inline water shut off valve. Take two small vice grips about 6" apart to seal off the heater hose that dosent have the heater control, cut the hose insert the valve. Be sure and slide the clamps on first then tighten clamps.

With the valve screwed down it will block water from the heater core and you can open it up as needed.

If you want to get fancy you can use a cable control the run a cable and mount to the dash. Or you can get one with an electric control and operate it with a switch on the dash.

Thanks to all for your replies and patience. I am having a blast getting to know my new/old rig, for example, I accidentlly found out that the high-beam switch is on the floor board the other night.

Thanks Again, Im sure I'll have more goofy questions in the future.

I heard the new cars sold north of the border (ohio river) were going back to floor board mounted in the floor.

Because too many Yankees were getting thier feet caught it the steering colums!
