I am going to the wrecking yard soon and not sure what the ih 727 looks like. anybody have any tips for me. remember I am new to the ih crowd and dont think I have ever seen the ih automatic before. I am bolting this up to a 345 in a 69 ih. also what years I should use if it matters. thank a bunch.

I'm a SII guy so I'm not sure if you need a divorce mount transfer or married like an SII. I have 2 SII 727's complete (flexplate spacer to D20) in the yard .... but I'm also ~220mi from you.

You'll naturally need a 727 that has the IH bolt pattern for the bell. It'll either be in an IH or the yard should know it's an IH. You'll want the starter shim, flexplate & spacer + bolts, TC, trans & a bull gear if married.

If you can't find what you need local & mine will work > either or both & we can work on a 1/2 meet or something.

HTH,

Assuming this is the 69 travelall in your sig, you have the divorced transfer case. The tranny is connected to the transfer case by a short driveshaft.

Before 1972, the auto was a Borg Warner. Identified by an aluminum bellhousing and a steel transmission case. Uses an electrical kickdown switch located under the gas pedal.

"About" 1972, IH switched to the MOPAR built 727. This is a one piece aluminum casting (bellhousing and case together) with a bolt pattern unique to IH V-8 engines. Uses a kickdown linkage that connects to the carb.

Remember to unbolt the torque converter and slide it away from the flex plate before unbolting the bellhousing from the engine. You want the torque converter to stay with the tranny. It is easy to mess up the seals on the torque converter.

What Kevin said... Get all the mounts, bolts, spacers, linkages, wiring for neutral safety switch, etc... Grab the short drive shaft if the doner is a 4x4.

NOTE: Only the 727 needs a starter spacer.

Be prepared to rebuild a junkyard transmission, you know nothing of it's history.

I have quite afew 727 trannies in stock right now and I'm not too far away from where you live. If you don't end up finding one at your local junkyard give me call during the week.

is the 727 the only automatic that was used in ih. I know fo$% and chevy used a few different ones. also the 727 is a 3 speed correct (no overdrive ) do you think I am going to have trouble with crankshaft end play going from a standard trans to auto.

well like I had asked in the last post how are the 727 as far as reliability. are rebuild kits still available for the ih models. I dont know why a few people on here find the need to act as if they are better than another person we are all on here for the same reasons to have fun, get questions answered and help others out. I have a wife and two kids hounding on me everytime I get on the computer give me a little credit man

I should note that the last post was no way meant in a bad way just wanted to say that sometimes things are over looked. did not want to offend anybody sometimes things are just crazy

is the 727 thats found in 72 and above IH built by mopar and the same as 727's used in mopar vehicles. if so then can I just pull a 727 from a dodge 4x4 truck. you then say the bolt pattern is unique to IH v-8 engines is that a completely different 727 then the ones used in the dodge trucks?

I know borg warner made many models. I guessing that from what you are saying the barg warner you are talking about

is not an actual 727, correct?

I dont know anything about the 727's. are they reliable. if its different then a 727 found in the dodge truck can you still get rebuild kits for them?

thanks for the help and again did not want to affend anyone just want people to realize that not everybody knows everything and thats why I am here asking questions.
