Default Gas mileage tips!

Hello I was surfing the internet the other night as my parents informed me that they were going to try acetone in their gas tank for better mileage. Apparently there friends had tried it and it helped. While searching I came across some very informative websites. They claim to have ways to significantly increase your mileage. I am particularily interested in the (Fogger) product as I have read in the past that heating up the gas for better burning can improve mileage. I wouldn't mind trying one but I am stuck out on the road and will only get home once a year. Here are the websites the list of 13 things on the first site is where I would read first the (fogger) is listed at the bottom of the page.

* I am in no way affiliated with this product, just very curious!

3. http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/warm/install.htm

Let me know what you guys think, or if anyone would like to see if these ideas work? THanks Brandon....

I am a mechanic at a Caterpillar dealer. One day a truckdriver came in saying his AC didn't work .I looked at it and he had put some long magnet on his fuel line that was supposed to do something for fuel milage .that made the fuel line heavier so it sagged down rubbing a hole through an AC line .

Gallon for gallon, diesel has more BTUs than gasoline.

But with the price of fuel in Europe being high for decades, anything *special* that could provide better fuel economy would have come from there already...

Small (= lightweight/aerodynamic) 4-cylinder powered vehicles. That's how they minimize their fuel costs in Europe!

Seriously, a good way to achieve the best fuel economy from something like a Scout/Travelall/etc. is to drive at the posted speed limit on the highway and avoid rapid acceleration or braking.

If heating your fuel worked, then it's done by design. Do it any more and, oh, yeah, vapor lock!

Similarly, adding acetone costs more than the fuel it saves. Buy a bottle of acetone and add it to your tank. If you save one whole gallon of gas (which would be downright amazing) you still wouldn't have equalled the cost of the acetone you added.

The solution to saving gas is the same as saving water - put a brick in your toilet tank, put a brick under your gas pedal!

My '75 200 with a 345, 4-speed, untouched-since-1975 two-barrel Holley and almost 1,000 lbs. of tools and wire in the back 24/7 gets 13-15 mpg. My mother in law drives a 2004 F150 (completely unloaded, obviously) with a 4.6L V8 that has yet to break 9 mpg. In two years she has yet to pull her right foot off the floor. Short of keeping the car you have in good tune, or trading your vehicle in for a diesel, the only thing you can do to actually save money (read: not throwing tons of money at incremental mileage increases) is change your driving style.

Of course on vehicles as old as ours, keeping your vehicle in tune can be a full-time job...

I personally don't buy any add on's to aid mileage. I do believe in fresh spark plugs, air filter, and proper tire air pressure. Don't carry around anything you don't need, keep the a/c off, and drive with a light foot.

It has the same effect as having taller gears, so this is true if you do a lot of sustained highway speed driving.

Larger diameter tires have a larger circumference, which means you cover more distance with each rotation.

There was someone on this board that actually did a test using acetone and didn't see any significant difference. Using the search function should find it pretty easily. He actually posted numbers.

iheric is on the right track. well tuned motor, the right carb and not going any faster than ya need to. people always assume my scout gets terrible mileage. it's actually better than my work trucks have been overall. and it will wheel the pants off of them!
