Hi All,
I'm brainstorming mods to my new Scout 800 with 304. Seeing this forum in the list for the first time made my eyes light up. I've always wanted an EFI conversion for my Scouts, and finally my dream has (apparently) come true. ![]() On to my question: Is it possible to modify a DUI distributor to work with the EST modules described in the required conversion parts thread step 10? The reason I ask is twofold. One, I've coveted one of these lovely distributors since the day they came out and would love to find a way to use one in the conversion for grins. Secondly and more importantly, I believe Santa (i.e., the family) has already bought me one -- and I'd feel like a heel if I had to swap it out when I do my EFI conversion (which will happen some day ). On the whole the conversion's the better upgrade I'm sure, but I do love the DUI dizzy and would hate to have to shelve it. Any thoughts, folks?

i think damian from D&C made his work correctly with the DUI and AFI kit. id have to reread rustys buildup again...
on a sidenote tho, you dont HAVE to use the electronic spark control to make FI work well.

You have 2 options if you want to keep that distr.
1. As mentioned, Damian runs his with a tach filter(from AFI) in a fuel only system. There is no timing control from the computer. 2. IIRC the DUI uses a 4 pin ign module with a magnetic pick up. You can convert it over to the 7 pin GM ign module and then lock out the mechanical advance(spot weld, screw). I assume yours does not have vacuum adv. if it does then just don't hook up the hose. Now you will have the larger coil in cap distr that can be used with computer controlled timing.

And yeah, I know ESC is optional -- even something I could add later. I tend to go all out with my brainstorming, though. In my mind my wallet is many times bigger than in real life. ![]() Quote:
Thanks for the input, guys.

Go to www.Customefis.com The link is in the FAQ's. For $30 you can become a contributing member and JW will send you an installation manual and he also has the HEI conversion to the 7 pin documented. That's where I learned how to do it.

I'm doing a TBI onto a caddy engine. It has the Coil-in-cap set up.
What I have done, is pulled the cap and rotor off, pulled the advance weights off, and locked the plate. I then pulled the 4 pin mod out of the dizzy and replaced it with 2 jumper wires. I then cut the wires coming out of the base. the 2 from the pick up go to the 2 pins on the 8 pin modual that are by themselves. The other 2 pin plug goes to the cap end of the plug from the dizzy. I then connected 12v to the batt term on the cap. I searched high and low and could not find this info, so thought I would put it where someone like me could find it. Thanks and good luck with your swap. ![]() Heres some pics... ![]() ![]() ![]()

It's a caddy motor not an IH!!
But he could have installed a 7 pin module in place of the 4 pin on that dizzy.
