Default Source for a cheap heater core?

I think I might swap in a new heater core in my quest to get decent heat out of my diesel. Anyone know a cheap source? Napa is $50, as is Autozone.

Bluescout,

before you swap out your heater core you may wish to check a few other things out. I have a 78 with the diesel and get plenty of heat and I am am way farther north than you are. A heater core usually can be cleaned at a raditor shop. You want to make sure that your water flow is not restricted by your valve. A simple test is check the hoses going in and out becareful they can get hot real quick.

I've been through the system with new hoses all around and even eyeballed the hole in the valve just to make sure it can flow. I've tried to flush the heater core and it flows plenty of water. I have the right style thermostat with the little plate on the bottom even. I've replaced the heater box because of rust and made sure the core was good and sealed into it. My last trick is going to my friend's shop to check the inlet/outlet with an infrared temp probe. The recent sold snap here got me thinking about it again.

Have you verified that the air duct are open and are not plugged with leaves and stuff.

If you have good coolant flow then you shout have heat.

I'd bet the duct on both sides of the heater needs cleaning I know it helped mine.

one thing you could do is warm the scout up real good, then grab the heater core hoses one at a time. it they are good and hot and feel about the same I would say your heater core is working.

My thermostat is a Napa 180. I get plenty of air out of the system, it's just warm. The only two things I can think is there's a lack of coolant flow or the core is partially plugged.

Hey, I get to chime in finally on something I know... I just replaced my heater core for about $38 at Autozone (had to order it), then when I put the new one in, I re-weatherstripped around it to seal it tighter, and I used aluminum tape on all the seams to keep the cold air out.
Seems to work better now.
Oh, yeah, and I vacuumed out the intake area.

Got mine on ebay brand new for under $20.

I also redid all the seal strips between the box and core.
Also note that some are 90* fittings and some are straight.
