Default No holds barred 392 IC build

I am going to build a performance 392 for my dually project.

Guidelines for the truck in question.
  1. Propane fuel.
  2. Manual transmission (5 speed).
  3. 4.30 gearing.
  4. Must be able to tow 10,000 lbs at speed without effort.
  5. Truck has A/C, and I want to use it whenever I want like modern trucks do.

I am open to all suggestions for producing reliable power. I don't want to build some high-strung pulling engine, so that means the components must be able to stand up for over 100,000 miles with little to no attention other than standard tune-ups and oil changes.

Okay guys, lets hear it.

-John

Okay, out of that I got that a CamCraft cam would be a good choice, so I should contact that owner about grinding a propane specific cam.

What I am looking for is reliable pulling power and well.... POWER.

I like 392's, in fact, it really is the only SV engine that I like other than the 266. The platform I have now is ideal for towing heavy loads long distances, but I need to to have all the modern amenities (this is in another thread already), and the engine must perform to modern expectations.

I am building a "modernized" IH pickup. The engine must go with the package.

For you of all people I would think DIESEL.... but let me know what you decide then how it turns out... I'll be doing the same thing in a year or so (I hope).

Except I'm planning 3.73's and a 5-speed, and maybe a 2-speed

I love your dually... if only it was a 4-door and a little cleaner, but that can be fixed

Like Mark said DIESEL but the late models are expensive to swap in but do make great power. But propane should do well unless the price goes up! And a 392 is cool!

Well.... this is an experiment in the theory of building a pavement poundin' 392.

I am looking for input about the idea.

If I wanted to do a Diesel, that would be EASY for me.

I have all the stuff to address the Dually's cosmetic and rust needs now, and I am going to get going on it this winter because the thought of it sitting in the shop for another year is making me nuts..

There you go.

I would like it if we didn't digress this thread with much about this truck, there is a thread about "Atlas" in the IHSTO forum that discusses the direction this project is going to take.

Keep on Binderin',

John

It may have been another one, this one was bought from a private owner that never advertised it.

Rumor is 14 of them were built. But it is just rumor. I have the linesetting ticket that shows the 10,000 GVW, it is stamped on the ID plate as well, and it was delivered with 7 tires Whether or not it had the bed when it left the factory is yet to be determined.
