I spray both sides of the gaskets with Copper Coat.
Don't use Thr Right stuff or any silicone based sealer around gasoline. Use only gas resistant sealers. That being said you can use The Right Stuff around the coolant ports tho. Darrell |

The Right Stuff states Oil, Coolant & ATF Resistant, but doesn't mention gas or if it is silicone based or not. I'll trust you know it is? The only other thing i have here is Permatex ULTRA COPPER 101BR. It is in a tube and silicone based hi-temp TRV. |

Personally I prefer the brush on "Hi-tack gasket sealer" that Permatex/Loctite makes to the spray on stuff. I like the copper on headgaskets, but I don't really think it's necessary on the intakes. My $.02, YMMV.

Lee.
The Right Stuff isn't silicone based. I mentioned silicone because most people have that in there shop and use it as a sealant. Silicone will turn into a gel when in contact with gas. I use the Copper Coat on the intake gaskets (heads also) because the suspended copper particles will help seal the metal to metal of the intake/gasket/head surfaces and the copper isn't gas soluble. IIRC Permatex #2 is a gas proof sealant but it dries hard not pliable. Darrell |

IIRC, Detroit Gasket/Corteco makes composite intake manifold gaskets for IH SV engines. Might want to make a few phone calls to some local shops to see if they have them in stock & forego the steel 'shim' gaskets.
Intake Gasket Part #'s for 304's: 23052 (steel, I do believe) & 23054 (composite, I think). HTH,

Well I have installed a few over the years and have always used "old blue" RTV silicone! Never had a leak. I have also pulled them apart and the silicone was stuck to the metal gasket showing no signs of wear. An old drag racer mechanic told me to use it and I just never questioned it..... So just something to consider.... Oh if you do use it only fill in the dimple on both sides of the gasket at each hole or port in the gasket then smooth it down with your finger so there isn't any excess. If that makes any sense...

I use the Hi-Temp silicone from Permatex myself and all is good. TRS might work just fine too, but I'd be wary of it around the exhaust crossover port. The only reason is it states a continuos hi-temp failure on the directions. I have personally seen it "melt" around exhaust manifolds and headers and become brittle.

The RIGHT STUFF and SILICONE are basically used INSTEAD of a gasket not in addition to! I'm surprised nobody has mentioned HYLOMAR . HYLOMAR is made by Permatex and used for essentially all gasket applications except heads (although it could probably be used for that). I think it is superior to Hi-Tack and CopperCoat (and more expensive too)! It never hardens and can also be used for flange fittings. I believe it was originally brought out for use on Rolls Royce. If you've never tried it, get a tube or spray can. I'm sure you'll be converted.
