I don't know how to decode 800's VINs. It has been brought up a few times on here before. Many states titled IH's in the year they were sold rather than specific model year. A search will net you some more info on that subject. It would be my guess that you have a 68 or possibly a 69. Check the faqs on this site to compare what your trim looks like, 68's and 69's had different grille treatments etc(headlight trim rings). I have a 68 that is approx 3800 units less than your VIN and a 69 that is approx 49700 units above your number if that is of any help to you. So you are somewhere in between. Cam

I've got the decoder list compiled by Jim Weed & Erick Foor. The first 4 are model series and body type, we're the same there. You have a 0 for the engine code and I have a 2, 4 & 8 cyl? Same cab type, a code 7. The last 7 are the plant & serial number, I'm about 2300 units older, but they could be year specific. Maybe BinderBooks can help here!!

You might invest in a Standard Catalog of 4x4's. Search for it on Amazon.com and you'll find a few different types. Both of mine have VIN codes, vehical options, color choices, vehical weights, original prices, etc for all brands and models from 1945 to 2001.
Hope this helps

thanks for all of your help, another guy decoded it for me said it was built March-April '68 time frame and said to call it a '68, the only problem is it looks like a 800 A, but the VIN plate just says 800,followed this link from a different post, http://www.binderplanet.com/forum... scout80+800_id
it has the square headlight rings, and did have the little round reflectors until I pulled them off, (thought they were aftermarket, one was cracked) I'm puzzled, if anyone else knows for sure that would be great, in the mean time I'll check into the books and stuff. but from what Greg says I think I have a '69 or '70.

Jacob,
This was hinted at previuosly, but let me state clearly for the record... There are no absolutes. Not a single one! I promise you. That being said. Let me follow that up with this: Also, as said earlier, scouts were often given a year of registration based on the year they were sold. Case in point is this. My 1968 Scout was actually built in April of 1966 and appearantly sat until it was sold sometime later. If you conduct a search of 800s on this website you will find a wide variety of people with 800s that share characteristics with a couple of years... some more drastic than others. If the Vin is decoded to be a 68 and it had components from a 69 or later I would bank it is an 800A (however see above about absolutes ). The best you can do is get the Line Setting Ticket and see what it says, that will at least tell you when they attached all of the components. But if the truck sat for a while, it would not have surprised me that someone on the line threw on the reflectors and square headlight rings before it left the plant. Assuming of course a PO didnt like the looks of an 800A and did the swap themselves. HTH Chris

thanks, I'll try to register it as a'68, the guy that said it was one is pretty reliable with IHC information, I will look into a Line Setting Ticket , I want to see what options it came with, the 800A stuff was probably installed by the PO, I was told he had a lot of scouts he parted out.
