My 5.3 and 4L60E are from an 02, why doesnt the stock transfer case for this engine have the vss i need?

Last year, me and some buddies took my 75 2WD Scout COMPLETELY apart and put in a 96 chevy 350 vortec. I got broke and let my membership here lapse, so I can't post any picts.

There is talk of a V6 Duramax also. How sweet would that be!!!

Looks like you are doing your swap right, not just hacking up a good scout to try and make a engine swap only to give up on the whole project after a little while.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Yes the 88 to 91 should but be careful, it's will have a sensor and wires instead of a speedo hook-up! The stock 02 chevry transfer case is a left hand drop you can use it's pick-up ring and sender to swap in to the VSS on the NP241.

Yeah I had a vortec 350 swaped in mine before the 5.3 the first few engine pictures in this post #5 are the Vortec 350. Oh yeah those engines like to spin rod bearings! That's why I swaped, plus there are far more aftermarket parts now for the Gen III engines. I had to more the engine mounts back about 4'' for 5.3 to retain the A/C but other than that it's about the same size!

I looked for a D-max V-8 to swap in but there retarted expensive and I would go with the 6.0L Ford (IH) powerstroke anyway. I had not heard about the V-6 D-max sounds great but I doubt it will see the market the shape GM is in now. I bet it's kinda like the rumours of a F-150 V-6 diesel engine just all talk so far!

Great thread! I've a 97 Chevy with a 5.7 & NV4500 I've contemplated
swapping. The gas milage in my Chevy is 19-20mpg. What are you getting with the 5.3?

Dan

I had a vortec 5.7 in there before the 5.3 and go like 16mpg with the 35's 4.56's and overdrive. But I keep my foot in it! The pictures in post 5 is the vortec 5.7. Swap the 5.3 yet to get everything back together (fixing very rusty tub). I plan on putting in a 6.0L instead of the 5.3 BTW. I would think you could get 20MPG easy with a 5.3 provided it was in a stock scout with 30' 3.73 and overdrive.
