Default possible inexpensive wiper motor

this looks like it can eaasily be adapted as a scout II wiper motor

Quote:
Powerful windshield wiper motor for 2000-2001 Saturn L series automobiles. Two speeds; high speed is 106 RPM at 12 Vdc, 4 Amps. Low speed is 41 RPM at 12 Vdc, 0.91 Amps. 3/8" threaded drive shaft with nut. A 2.25" lever with a universal joint, attached to the shaft, is easily removable. 7" overall length x 3.5" x 4".

I will order one an try it, but for $15 you really can't go wrong.

73 scout II..

the electrical issues dont matter much, I was looking for a good mechanical fit.. at worst I brake a new piece of sheetmetal.

Let us know how it goes in. I could use a newer one on my Scout also. the 25 year old one seems to be lower on power than I would expect.

I have had good results simply taking apart the wiper motor, cleaning the parts and putting it back together. I had one that didn't work at all, now it works fine.

Good news, the motor is a perfect fit for the stock scout bracket. You do need to get some screws (%$#&ing Metric system) to mount it, or I guess you could retap them. so far I have three more issues to resolve.

1) Need to get a connector for the motor assy, Saturn (or is it the Uranus) dealer has them for $11.28 part no 15306258, or I better yet go visit a junk yard and get one..

2) I need a wiring diagram for the Saturn wiper circuit, else I guess I could just reverse engineer the park switch, but a diagram would be good. (can someone on the list do the footwork and post one?)

3) I need to come up with a good way to connect the wiper arm, the stock scout unit is slightly different in it's hookup, I would like to find a simple method with minimal hacking..

so.. my advice is to grab some of the motors if you think you need a rebuild. no mater what is this way cheaper than anything else I found..

(btw the specs for this wiper motor for 2000-2001 Saturn L series automobiles. Two speeds; high speed is 106 RPM at 12 Vdc, 4 Amps. Low speed is 41 RPM at 12 Vdc, 0.91 Amps. )

More to come..

Thanks for the update Vinnie.
Looks like the wiper arm to motor arm could be solved by removing the Saturns pivot ball, looks like it may have a nut behind it. Then grind the flanges off of the back of the IH pivot rod that holds it to the arm then either weld, tap and thread or find another way to secure it to the Saturns arm. looks this easy from the pics anyhow.
I noticed the difference in size of the motor housings. I wonder if the Saturns motor has good power....I would suppose it couldn't be worse than a 25+ year old motor huh?

more info.. this guy uses the motor for a halloween project

http://www.scary-terry.com/wipmtr/wipmtr2.htm

and has a terminal layout..

according to this guy you get the various speeds by hooking up to low high and ground such that + and - goes to :

160 RPM +/- Hi/Low
70 RPM +/- Hi/Gnd
41 RPM +/- low/Gnd.

so I probably need to come up with a good design for you guys
for the wiring..

this guy has them for $12.95 http://www.electronicsurplus.com/com...oduct_id=84446

i suppose you could skip the connector, solder some wires to the pins,
and then fill the connector well with silicone..

Vinnie,
This is awesome to hear! I need to rebuild the motor on my Scout and this sounds like a heck of a good alternative!! Keep us posted with updates!!!
