You'd probobly be better off finding a ford 4spd.
There might be an adapter kit, but those are $$$. Maybe a possibility to swap input shafts and use a ford bellhousing, but that means two transmissions etc, so also $$$ probobly.

It seems advance adapters (dot com) can mate anything. I had a scout ii a while ago that had a ford 6 in it.... so it is possible. (i got it that way so no details...) |

Will a ford T-19 bolt right up to the scout transfer case? Or do you have to change output shafts?Thanks----Tom

why put in a ford motor in the first place, I have a nice 345 for you not far away in gresham, OR. I will give you a good deal on it Oil pan to Intake manifold and you won't have to worry about all those other things. the international engine will far outlast that old ford thing anyway.

I would like to get decent mileage because I drive a long way to work. So I was going to put a 300 Ford six in a scout with a manual trans. It is not that the 345 or 304 are not good engines. It is that they are not known for their fuel economy.Thanks----Tom

There was a recent thread on 300's here http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=30899
Are you looking to stick with a T 18/T19 which were avalible in both rigs, or are you looking to use a Ford OD trans? |

how are you gonna use it? daily driving only? driver/off road wheeler? gonna lift it? do you mind a wide track width?what size tires?
taking a whole donor ford parts rig with a 300/np435/205(or even a 435/np 208) would let you swap the whole driveline and in the process would get you a high pinion,SOA front. the diff would end up on the other side,of course. but it would be a quick, easy way to get a SOA to fit the tires you want, and a frotn axle with better caster for better driveavility. only disadvantage would be the width, and now youll need some steerig mods in addition to new driveshafts, new exhaust, new motor mounts, etc.if youre intent on keeping a narrow track width and a passenger side diff, you can put use the ford engnie/4 spd and keep a pass side diffy by swapping the ford 31 spline 205 input gear into the right version of a chevy 205,or even use a NP 208 if you dont mind an aluminum chain drive transfer case. ford and chevy both used the 208,the ford input will swap, and chevy 208s are pass side drop and not hard to find. i could buy your fuel mileage story if you were wanting to swap in an injected 5.0,but i wuldnt expect much better out of a 300 six(even the TBI version) than you get from a 345. most ford owners will tell you the 300 does not get any better than any carbed v8 the 300 is a neat engine, and your rig would be different, but i dont think the work involved is going to produce the results you want if better gas mileage is the only reason for the swap...in a quest for good mileage, why not use a 196 4 cyl, maybe equip it with some sort of tuneable aftermarket TBI,liek the holley pro-jection. the TBI would be expensive to buy,but the engine swap would be real straightforward. i dont know much about the 4 cyls,so hopefully someone else could comment on the MPG potential of a TBI 196. there is alot of potential swap candidates for a small fuel injected v8,or even a gm v6,it just depends on available parts in your area, howll youll use the truck, budget available, and how much of the work you can do yourelf my $.02,anyway
