Well SC has finally had some cooler weather we have been in the low 20's for two nights.

I think I can say that the Y112M1 glowplugs are better than the Y103's (I have one y103 plug in because one of my Y112M1 was dead if I replace it with a Y112M1 I might have even less smoke). I use the button till the light goes out and then hold it for a count of 20 then push my rack advance in (only us tug SD33 guys get to do this) light her up and after glow her a couple of times. The amount of smoke is less, but it's still not as smoke free as my 6.5TD.

Now this does not mean run out and buy Y112M1 glow plugs I still don't know long they will last with a manual glow plug system (NGK did not recommend them).

John how much did the tugs seem to smoke when they were in Airforce operations?

Carey

They used to smoke for about 10 secs, but nothing like the Diesel Scout does.

It was just a little blue huff from the spark arrester (yeah, I know, Diesels don't need them, but the USAF isn't known for brains a lot of the time )

They also started up super-smooth. None of the rattle and hum that we are used to.

Dieselin',

John

Here is something I'd like to try if I ever have the $$$.

I got the info from Peter Bierman who is on www.thedieselpage.com

Volvo Construction Equipment Part #:11998965
Part is used on old Excavator EW / EC 150 C
Part is rated € 75.- overhere.
Dealer can be found at Volvo.com in the construction equipment section, there is a dealer locator.

I found the part, but its $110.16 for one I need to find a cheaper one.

The thread and hole size are:
M22 X 1.5. hole needs to be 20.5 MM

Here is a pic of them in Peter's twin turbo 6.2 Blazer.

Carey, I likes the looks of that set-up. I really wanted to work a grid heater into my intake manifold but I couldn't find one that was both reasonably priced and shaped correctly. I found some square ones on E-bay but I couldn't figure a good way to work them in, plus they went for a lot of $$.

We have had two straight nights where it has gotten down into the teens last night was 15° F. I have not plugged my Scout's Tug SD33 in yet and it has started great smoke it WAY LESS then either of my Scout SD33T's in the same type temps.

I currently have 5 Y112-m1 glow plugs and 1 Y103 glow plug.

I glow for the time that the Scouts glow plug light stays on then for an additional count of 20 and then I push in the advance (Tug/MZ pump only thing) and start it. I after glow it two time for about 8 sec each time.

I don't know if it's just because of the Y112 M1 glow plugs or just that the injectors are better on this engine. I can say though this Tug SD33 starts way better than my other two SD33T's ever did.

I was crusing Ebay the other day and entered Glow Plug and I didn't get anything new or interesting, but down at the bottom of the page I saw a small engine shops store and I went there by chance and looky at what I found.

Well to make it short he had an Onan diesel engine glow coil and so I decided to get one to see if it would work in my SD33 here are some pics and info on it.

It is a Champion CH3 Glowcoil it has the following # on it: CH3, CX2, and 12V.

Thread: M18x1.50

Voltage: 12v

Wattage: 385watts

From the seat base to the end of the glowcoil it is just over 2 1/8" (gimme a break I'm at work with nothing, but a wood ruler.

http://www.championsparkplugs.com/re...nt.asp?pid=ch3

If you click on Cummins, Ford, or Onan you get the price.

I called Napa and they can order them for $26.29.

Looks to me like with the right pipe fitting or plug, it could fit right in where my blow-off-valve used to be.

I'd bet you could cut the hat off the BOV and then drill and tap it without having to get a new plug (1.5" NPT IIRC).

ps better watch you boost close.

385W / 12v = 32A per glow plug X 6 = 192 amps of current if you go from the HUGE battery through a relay
you might not burn up your truck! ha!

I have found a 2 coil self regulated glow plug that looks exactly like a Y-103 ;it fits; starts off at 15 A and falls back to 10 A holding the temp at 900 deg and it is HOT in 10 sec and does not have to be turned off very soon AND does not require a controler!!!!!
I have one and have tested it and have ordered 6 more but they tell me --WAIT - to be (made) and shipped 15 may.
I plan on replacing my relay with a 200A soleniod as the inrush will be 90 amps! My relay for 6 Y-103 s is 60A.Y-103 pulls 7.5 -- 8 A for 48 A .
If the test works I'll let you know.
the new plug is pricey! my cost for 6 was around $150.00 but worth it if it works.
