Sounds like fun, so I called Vince Rengers. The second hand story:
International Happenings shows the event in July, and listed "Dale" as a contact. I left him a message requesting info. I'll post whatever I findout. |

Hey,
If anybody need's any info on the area, Camping, Hotels, Restaurants, Parts Stores let me know I am VERY familiar with the area. I used to work at Chassis Shop Performance. It was within spitting distance to the entrance. I still only live 20 minutes away. Oh, by the way for those who like to raise some hell Silver City II is your best bet, I got set on fire there once. Something about 118 race gas eating through a styrofoam cup, and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you want some peace and quiet stay at Yogi Bear or one of the two State Park campgrounds. The best campground got bought out by one of the Hotels, total bummer. If memory serves me right I almost got set on fire there too. Huh, I think I stick to my own campfire site this year!. There are 3 hotels in the Silver Lake area ranging in price from $75 to $175 a night depending on the time of year. The best pizza is from the Pizza factory. If you eat pizza at Silver Point you'll need to have a porta potty with a 2 mile radius the next day. There is a go-kart track that's pretty fun (Craig's Cruisers). If your looking for something differant there are some dune buggies that can be rented I think they're about 65 bucks an hour. You can also rent wave runners and jet boats for about 75 bucks an hour. The Closest place to get parts is right at the entrance to the dunes at David Allen Racing's Duneland. If they don't have it they can get it. If you want to see some really impressive equipment take a swing over to the Sand Drag track. For a little cashola they run a test and tune night on friday nights. Frank also rents the track out for special occasions so if a group of Scout guys wanted to rent the track to see who's got the baddest binder they could do that also. There happens to be a race the 17th of July also. The best race is the US sand nationals, its 4000+ hp sand dragsters going 300 feet in less than 3 seconds at 110+ mph. That race is August 6,7,and 8th. If you haven't been to Silver Lake you have to do it at least once. There is a lot to do there besides wheeling in the dunes! |

Silver lake is a blast! I used to live in MI. Just don't jump the big dunes in a full size Chevy, or you'll end up on your grill eating an airbag, not to mention opening your doors after bending your frame...............
