Default carb choice

I am going to need a new carb soon and am wondering what would be a good one. I am looking to get one new not used. I have a 1980 scout II with a 345 and a tf 727.

Default Quadrajet....

A quad is the way to go if you have a four barrel intake...good power and torque...runs at any angle.

For a two barrel, the Holley 2300 is hard to beat. Holley sells a wide variety of add-on parts that make it a real contender off-road.

A local Scout owner just put a new four barrel Holley Truck Dominator on his 350 conversion engine and loves it.

Default Holley Truck Avengers

Holley's are normally crap offroad at angles...but king of the street. A friend of mine has a Holley Truck Avenger and it works good so far but only time will tell.......

My 2300 was a dog on the trail until I rebuilt and tweaked it. It now runs well at all angles. I haven't tried upside down, yet.

Carb. selection is kinda like IBM vs Apple. All brands have good and bad points.

Too true. Then the "selection" becomes extremely limited when one is limited to a 2 bbl manifold such as one finds on the 304 and smaller V-8s. Yea theres adapatwidgets for 4 bbl installation on a 2 bbl manifold but I personally have yet to see "any" vehicle run properly, across the full rpm range the motors capable of, with one installed.

Default 196 Carbs

I've heard some good things about the Weber 32/36 for 4 cylinders.
