My current and forever Scout (the one my Dad bought new in Feb 75) has usually averaged about 16 mpg. I had a 74 that got about 17 around town and 19/20 on the highway. I do not know why I got any of those figures. I only know the particulars on my current Scout which are:
V-8 304A 2245 carb 4x4 3.45 axles T-19 Wide (it has a granny gear) 31x10.5 tires I'm currently running a little rich and am trying to squirrel my way to a good mix and timing adjustment. These are all factors in mpg. Scouts don't sip gas, but they shouldn't be guzzlers (its all relative). Ritterhouse |

10 seems a touch low given my experience. When I notice things drooping its tune up time, carb rebuild or vac hose replacement for starters.
Right now the '75 averages around 14 (DD commute) but Ive had the '73 get as high as 18 and avaraging around 16 on the highway when it was running. D.
