Default Terra top needs

I am planning on restoring my 77' Scout II in the next year or so. As part of the restoration I am going to be replacing the full top that is on there now with a really nice Terra top I picked up the other week. Right now I am trying to track down all the parts I will need for the top change out. What else will I need?

Here is what I have:

Fiberglass Terra Top
Bulkhead
2 rubber corner gaskets in good shape (I think they are bottom corner gaskets, not really sure where they go.)
Nothing else

Thanks!

Terra/traveler door glass and weatherstripping. I use a harbor freight threaded insert tool on the inner quarter panels for the sides of the bulkhead and bolts and nuts on the floor at the bottom of the bulkhead.

Mine needs work too, so I may be forgetting something, but..
- Rear bolt down plate (to attach the top to the bulkhead). I have known people to transfer one from another top, or you could purchase (for example: http://www.superscoutspecialists.com...own-plate.aspx). I am not sure what bolts go there.. 5/16'"-18 maybe?
- Two nuts per side (5/16"-18) to bolt the rear corners to the side rails (*should* be two 5/16'-18 studs on each side). I have known some people to use wing nuts and NOT bolt to the bulkhead so they can easily add/remove the top.
- Four 1/4" x ? bolts to bolt it to the front windshield frame. If yours is like mine, at least one of the threads in the top is bad.. I still need to figure out what to do about that.
- Top door edge seal strips (like this: http://www.superscoutspecialists.com...ler-terra.aspx).
- Seals for the strips
- Inside and outside lights and switch (If you have them, they may just need cleaning/repainting).
- Speaker covers
- Rear window glass seal. There are universal seals available (check ebay). I understand there are still people selling used original seals - I'm looking into that myself.

The rear bolt down plate....no laughing now....does it go between the top and the bulk head or under the floor for the bulkhead to bolt to.

Thanks for the replys.

Under the floor, the bolts go through the holes in the bulkhead, through the floor, and into the threaded inserts in the bolt down plate.

I decided to forgo that plate and just drilled holes in the floor to line up with the holes in the bulkhead's bottom flange. I didn't spring for the new corner seals and found used seals from the shorty metal top. The front portions were the same so I cut up some heavy mouse pads to make up the rest of the shape. For my bulkhead to be vertical and still line up properly with the flange on the bottom of the top the side flanges lined up over those vertical depressions on the bed sidewalls (to prevent oil canning, I suppose). Still haven't figured that out completely (mine is a 1980 100" wb), so the Terra bodies must have been slightly different. Two of the top's imbedded nut plates have stripped out. And the fiberglass needs repairs.....In all, though, these tops are really cool and I believe worth the effort to fix up right.

S.H.A.F.T.

Here is my albumn covering the bulkhead part of the Terra top install.

I think the Terra top makes for a nice looking Scout.

Good luck with yours!

  • The dimensions of the 100" wheelbase scout bed are different from the long wb right behind the seat. The bulkhead may fit, but I am thinking that it may have to be trimmed. I modified mine extensively for several reasons, including being able to get it in place without removing the roll bar, and ease of removing it for summer season and soft top use.
  • The bed rail cover pieces that bolt over the joint between inner and outer fenders, they have different holes under the 6 or 8 inches of the terra top that sits on them. You will have to drill holes, no big deal.
  • If you want the cab lights to work, and you want to be able to bolt the cap to the quarter panels, you will need to make a hole in the wall, and might want the plastic cover plates that the terras have on each side. trivially easy to fab up a pair.
  • light switch has been mentioned already?

"The rear bolt down plate....no laughing now....does it go between the top and the bulk head or under the floor for the bulkhead to bolt to."

The one I posted the link to mounts in the terra top, to allow it to be bolted to the top of the bulkhead. From SSS:
"Terra Top Rear Bolt Down Flange.
Attaches to Rear Bottom of Terra Top to Bolt It Down."

The old top on my Terra had lost this flange somewhere along the way. I had a guy transfer one from another top. I guess it would be trivial for another person to fab this and install it, but not for me.. Perhaps you already have the flange so it's a non-issue.

I had mine painted with white Raptor Liner. Looks awesome.

You'll like the top.
