![]() Anyway, do I need to pull the damn dash off to access this thing? I have the factory installed AC which I think I can loosen to gain a little more access under the dash. I know I can also loosen the ebrake bracket as well which will give me alittle more access. Please don't tell me I have to remove the dash. Not really ready to mess with that until I replace the windsheild wiper and go to electric. Also, my speedo starts at 20mph. Is there an easy fix for that like just unhooking it and resetting it?? |

The roar of the crowd is deafening...
![]() Not sure on your cable (mine is mounted below the dash). On mine the securing nut is on the backside of the bracket though. So if your's is the same, it will need to be accessed from behind the dash. Most things I've found under the dash can be accessed by any good yoga instructor, or child under the age of 13. On the speedo. It probably needs the head cleaned. If the sweep is smooth (needle isn't bouncing around) above 20mph, then the speedo cable is in good shape. Although a bit of cable lube while the speedo is out wouldn't hurt. Cleaning the head without dissassembly is pretty difficult. I've never been able to do that w/o getting cleaning fluid on the face. There are some pretty great speedo service companies all about the U.S. with reasonable prices. A google search on speedometer repair should bring up a pretty good list. Speaking of the Speedo, would you gain accessibility to the choke with the gauge cluster pulled out? I use bungies to secure mine to the sun visor when doing stuff up behind the dash. Hope this helps, until the Cavalry shows up.

Yoga instructor!! Love it!
Yup. Afraid of that. My wife does have some tiny hands! Maybe I can convince her to climb up there and give it a go. Beats the hell out of pulling the dash. But I guess if I pull the dash, might as well order the electric new windsheild wipers ![]() Might not even mess with the speedo unless someone gives me some magic pixie dust! |

I used that same edlebrock choke cable on my 69 800. I don't know if you can get the knobs to swap out, I did not try since I kind of like the edlebrock knob. I was able to get to the nut on the rear of it once I pulled out the gauge panel. I tried but could not get it from under the dash.

If your choke cable has a knob affixed by an allen set screw, you can cut the knob off the new cable and put the old knob right on the new cable.

When I replaced mine I used a used marine shift cable (transon cables). These have "circulating" ball bearings and work with ease. Be sure you have access to the nuts for the cables to refabricate. They also work excellent for your deisel shut off on your tractors.

Well I ended up buying a universal Edelbrock cable and installed that. The old one's coiled cable was just about 1.5 inches too short to connect to the choke cable fixed arm so I had to do the install.
It was fairly easy to access. I just pulled the guage access panel off and scraped my hands up trying to get the damn bolt loosened. A little cursing and some skin later and I had it installed. Pulled through the fire wall without a hitch. and worked out great. Happy with the install. I do wish I could have gotten the old nob on there however. Oh well. Not going to be a show car or anything..

Most things I've found under the dash can be accessed by any good yoga instructor, or child under the age of 13. Haha I love this!!! I was under the dash the other day, and the only way I could get to what I was looking for was to lay on the seat with my feet in the air! Lucky for me the top was off or I never would have gotten to it!

as Doc was kind enough to point out, the knob comes off the cable end . . a tiny set screw holds it on the cable.....
