Default Ultimate ( Rhino ) spray in Bed lining of a Scout 2

I dont think i have ever see the spray lining of a scout 2 documented so i did just that. I used Ultimate liner ( same as Rhino lining ). Rather than repost the whole entire thread i am just going to include a link if thats ok. It shows step by step with pictures how its done. Enjoy

How to spray line the inside of a Scout 2 tub!!

It really deadens the sound and block more of the heat from coming through the sheetmetal. You can actually carry on a conversation inside without raising your voice even with the top off.

I prefer MonsterPaints MonstaLiner which is more UV stable and available in colors.

Durabank is another good option which is UV Stable and comes in Textured or Smooth plus tons of color choices.

Ultimate liner has color tints I can add to the clear material to change the color to anything you want. (pretty sure Rhino, and Line X have the same options) As far as the Urethane used in bedlining products, there are only two different types. Aromatic Urethane which is what Line X and Rhino and the others use for their product. It is relatively UV stable for the average lifespan of the product. Then there is Aliphatic Urethane which is way more UV stability but cost twice as much. If the bedliner companies used this a spray in liner would be about double the cost. What can be done to the regular stuff is it can be top coated with a UV stabilizer and that will last 5-6 years before fading starts to happen.

Durabak and Herculiner are fine for a thin coat, but as reported by many will wear away in high use spots within a year. It goes on thin and to build up a coating as thick as you would receive with a commercial spray system you would have to do 7-10 coats and then it would have been cheaper to just have it sprayed. Don't forget to factor in the materials to mask off everything, special tape, paper, plastic sheeting, etc when you are comparing the jobs. The other reported problem with these two is that they are hard like line-X and give no cushioning effect when you are crawling around on it inside your rig. It’s slippery and stuff that you set on it can get scratched or slide around, not so with the Ultimate

I am all for the DIY products except when it does not give me the same results as the commercial version. There is a reason I buy the Wagner brakes over the white box, the Hella headlights over the cheap import, the Felpro gaskets over the cheap house brand, etc.

It boils down to getting what you pay for.

Wish I would have seen this earlier. I posted (http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...&highlight=bed) there about bed liners. Have you ever heard of dduplicolor bed armor with kelvar and do you have any thoughts on it.

I used this on my Scout, and I'm happy with it. However, it has it's drawbacks:

1. it's too thin. I am going to end up using at LEAST another can in some time to increase the thickness and durability.
2. It's soft... possibly too soft. It's meant for light duty applications. It'll be GREAT inside the cab, but if you're using it in a truck bed which will see real use, I'd look elsewhere. I good shovel scrape would probably scratch it up pretty well.

The $200 SEM I sprayed in mine in 2005 still looks great with no fading, and has held up really well. It goes on as thick as you want it to, since it is a 2-part poly...not air-cured. It'll cure up in the mixing cup 2" thick!

In retrospect, I should've gone for a chemically cured product. I knew this going in, since I learned years ago that 2K paints are incredibly superior to those which use no hardeners... particularly when it comes to chemical resistance.
