Default Engine and Transmission ID

Before you say anything I did try searching and didn't find what I'm looking for.

I bought a 73 1110 that is mostly not stock.
It has GM axles.

Now for the mystery:
Engine: I have identified the engine as either a 266 or 304 because the points in the top of the back of the engine are 7" apart. The boss where the number is stamped does not appear to have the engine size on it. Also, this boss looks small than other ones I've seen in the front to back dimension. Are there any other ways to tell the difference between a 266 and 304?

Transmission: It has a 5 speed transmission with a brake on the back of it. There is a lever going up through the floor for the brake. I though it was a T-35 but it does not appear to be synchronized in any gear. How can I identify it?

Thanks in advance.

I'll try to get pics soon.
There is no LST behind the glove box; it was one of the first things I checked for. The trans is definitely not original and who knows if the engine is.

On some heads it does say what engine size they are for. It is often in 2 locations between the valves under the valve cover and on the portion of the head that over hangs the block. Crawl under the truck and look up at the portion of the head hanging over the block and see what you see.

I've also heard that early 266 did not have the engine size stamped on that pad. Some volume rebuilders as a standard practice grind off the serial number which is also located on that pad when they rebuild them. A factory installed engine of that era would have the engine size stamped and the 266 had dropped off the option list by then.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter which it is until you want to rebuild it and then you'll have it torn down and can measure the bore.

Thanks.
Now that you mention it I remember seeing the "304" and "345" on the heads of my other engines.

Now on to the trans...

If the trans is truly non-synchro in all gears, nobody here is probably going to be able to identify it.

You need to post pictures plus any casting numbers / letters on the case.

Since it has the e-brake on the back, it is from a "loadstar" / medium (or heavy) duty truck.

If it is all non-synchro, it is probably from the 1950's???

Nowhere on here have I read where anybody could definitively tell the difference between a T-34, T-35, T-36 based on the case / casting info.

Or a 15x0 series truck.

IH used a non synchro 5 speed trans from 1950 through 55 or maybe later in everything from half ton to 20,000 lb trucks. The parking brake was on the back of the transmission. Clark made it.

I am building up a 66 1100 with the IH six for power. I was thinking about one of those old non synchro trans so that my kids would not borrow the truck!! "Dad, can I borrow the pickup?" "Sure. if you can shift it without clashing!"

Swap you a Good T98 for yours?

No thanks, I'll keep it around whether it's in the truck or not.
I might see if I can yank my dad's 392/T19.

I figured out it shifts a lot better if you double clutch. I might just get used to that until the diesel swap

Next time I'm working on it I'll check to see what markings I can find and look for any indication of "clark"

I got some pics of the engine and transmission. The only marks I see on the engine ID boss are "S" and "NS" and the engine size is not on the bottom lip of the heads.

This is where my 345 says "V345". This one just has casting numbers (which I couldn't read).

And here's a picture of the truck:
