Best bet would be to post up your questions in the Triple Diamond Trucks category. That's where I fall under too, I'm learning slowly but surly - sure is alot to learn!

It is an L series, probably an L 160. It should have the inline 6 SD 220 motor and a 4 speed tranny. It has a side tilt hood which is pretty cool. The worst rust issue on them is generally the lower end of the front grill by the turn signals. There is a stiffing bar just below the lights that caught debris and would rot through.
Good motor and nice trucks. My favorite truck I've ever owned was a 1950 L120.

Being a grain truck, it probably only has 30,000 miles on it since they only use it for four or six weeks out of the year. Also probably very light on rust since it likely didn't get run in the road salt....I could see that with an aluminum roll back or a tilt bed as a Scout hauler!

So I just talk too the guy about the truck and it sounded promicing he did say that the coil went out and it has a bad wheel cylinder, but my question is are these trucks four wheel drive because he kept talking about the something he was calling the 2 speed transmission and he said last time he used it it would not shift too low so he disconected a wire too just leave it in high. So is this a transfer case he is talking about or some sort of gear splitter. Also he said the cab and doghouse are in great shape and he did a rough but deacent paint job just too keep it from rusting but all together he said it is a solid truck and it wont take much too get it up so my dad could drive it home and store it untill I get home so should I go for it or is this truck a risk any suggestions and help are wanted

It is not 4 wheel drive.
The seller is referring to the two-speed rear end.
It has an electric motor that shifts the two-speed differential from low range to high range and from high range to low range.

Brakes, an old truck with low useage will need the brakes gone thru, both the hydraulics and mechanics (shoes & hardware).

Possibly may need to go thru the fuel system also, carb, lines & tank if it hasn't been run frequently.
