This time it was an original No rust thru!!! 1961 scout 4X2 cab top. It was listed as a 1962 but the Vin shows it to be a 1961. It's about the 4000th scout built. FC4674 Looks like the chassis was assembled Mar 9 and the scout on Mar 10. Still need to get the date code on the engine. Mine appears to be all original. The only things I have found wrong so far are the spare tire missing and the spare tire mounting stud in the bulkhead was cut off. The 25A gen was replaced with a mopar alt that is held on with 2 bolts. And the bench seat was recovered. Still has the AM radio and it turns on. It may have been a dealer install since it's not on the LST. Just ordered a complete brake system for it to freshen up the 9"drum brakes. Still has the finned drums on it but they look a little thin. Might be nice to find one of those brke specialist that can reweld the surface and turn them back to new specs. At least with the power lock rear diff I'm the same traction as a 4wd with open diffs! Some recently hit the divers side front corner and took out the nose piece and the fender. I happened to have a couple setting in my pile so i will throw them on with some hand mixed AZ laquer yellow paint till I can find the some better. I was able to get her running enogh to drive her up on the trailer. Guy said that was the most he had heard out of it in 10 years. Spent the rest of the day doing the normal maint items and had her running and driving on all her own systems.....just no stopping except the parking brake. I was amazed on that first drive just how well it rode and how short the throw of the old 3 speed was. I had to shift every gear twice to make sure it was really going into gear with just that little movement. Last IH stick I drove was a T34/35 and it was like a stick in a bucket of ...you know what. So it looks like not much more then a complete freshen up and of course fuel injection and she will be good to go. So maybe throw my new go cart mini scout in the back of the 61 scout, put it on a trailer and tow it with my 56 travelall. Guess I could throw my IH fridge and cub cadet on the trailer and then when i hit the shows i can have all the bases covered ![]() Just need to get the DOL here to change the title to 1961. Here's a few pics.

So everything in my yard will be for sale if i don't pass away first and the son gets to them first. He has the same name. I look at it as therapy. All my life i wanted to start drinking. As long as I keep spending money on IH's I can't afford to start drinking.

I missed that new show.
Now I have to see it. Well I got several things sorted out and was able to drive her down the road and back. I think the damage came from a PO(changed hands twice before me) not knowing how to properly install the brakes. It's a pretty simple system with manual adjusters for each shoe instead of the star wheel at the bottom. There was a pair of shoes behind the seat when I got it and I thought it a little strange till I pulled the lt rear drum and found no shoes. Now i know why the brake fluid was dripping out that wheel. I also found that the shoes installed were fairly new but that one shoe was completely worn or sanded on one end. Either they didn't back the adjusters off before installing or they sanded the shoe to get them installed with the adjusters out. Or...the wheel cyl was only pushing one shoe out on each wheel but that would be a little odd to have the same thing on all 4 wheels. All new wheel cylinders and some shoes and when it arrives, a new master cyl. But for now they are all installed and working again. The little 1904 carb was giving me fits and I was real close to unbolting it and installing the TBI. But I finally found the reason the carb would flood one minute and starve the next. There was a coule little pieces of rubber stuck in the needle and seat. So it would either stick the needle closed or open whenever it wanted. So a couple days work and about $200 in parts so far but the 1961 scout is just about ready for the road.

Nice rig...
I'm somewhat of a newbie, but I was under the impression that a V8 wouldn't fit in an 80-scout. (I learned something new!) I bet that little thing is a ROCKET with that engine in there!
