Default Scout II 345 Belt Setup

Need feedback about belt routing. I bought a rebuilt engine from S&J engines about 6 months ago. Finally started making time to put the scout back together. The scout is made up from a 1975 and a 1980. Someday I would like to have air conditioning so with that in mind I used the bracket from the 1980. I have no plans to install the air pump or the compressor right now. All I will have is the Alternator and the Power Steering pump. I believe the harmonic balancer that came with the rebuilt engine is a bit different. I was able to use my alternator belts but the belt I had for the power steering was too long. I believe this is because i took out the air pump. I went and bought a 46 inch belt and plan on the setup in the picture. Is there any reason this won't work? Are there any issues with running the power steering pump from the water pump pulley?

Don't know if there's a problem with that belt arrangement or not but, on mine the PS belt comes off the outter most crank pulley, the smog pump belts comes off the inner most water pump pulley and the AC belt comes from the outter most WP pulley.

just asking, but isn't the pwr.strg pump a bit crooked? looks like its bent in towards the motor just a bit? did you leave out a washer or a spacer where it bolts to the motor? or is it just a figment of my imagination? jeff

The SII PS pump is driven off of a pulley on the crank. When you have a harmonic balancer it is a separate pulley that bolts on to it. The water pump pulley you are using to drive the pump is for the AC compressor. The Air injection pump is driven off of a pulley on the water pump that goes behind the 2 that drive the alternator.

The picture does make it look crooked but I went and checked and its straight. I haven't tightened it down yet I just had the belt in place to mock it up for the picture.

I looked the other day and I couldn't find any info but today I found this excellent thread.

http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...d.php?t=105538

Looks like the only issue i may have is when i want to install AC in the Scout but I will deal with that in the future if I ever buy a kit.

When last I looked I didn't have the pulley that bolts onto the Harmonic Balancer. I'll dig around my growing pile of spare parts and see if I might have missed something.

Thanks for the info Eric. Based on your reply i found this post. http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...monic+balancer

D290 had this picture of the pulley. I think this is what I need to find in order to run the PS pump from the main pulley.

Yes that is the Scout II with harmonic balancer PS pulley. Nothing says you can't swap to your old crank pulley set up nor run the PS off of the AC compressor pulley if you figure out the right belt length.

I'm running the identical setup you show in post 1. I dropped my outside crank pulley and broke it. (very fragile) I've haven't had any issues but as Eric said, we would have to change things if A/C every came into play.
