Default For the 4 cyl crowd!

Got my first 2 prototypes back from the machine shop. These are for a 2 barrel TBI.
I could probably speed up the process if i could learn to draw in a CAD/CAM program so the measurements could be entered directly into the CNC. But as it is, I just draw in paint and send them the picture.
Slow process but it's working.

Here is the initial adapters for the 152 and 196 4 cylinders.
I could have combined them but i felt there was enough of a size difference to justify each have their own adapter and throttle body.

The 152/2.5L uses the 2.8 V6 TBI and the 196/3.2L uses the 4.3 TBI. I felt a little bigger was better than smaller.
Note the transition is a nice smooth radius that tapers down to the manifold bore.
No sharp edges to effect the airflow.

Here is the 152.

Here is the 196.
Note the injector pod was removed for better pics.

And then some day when i'm done with the V8 system.....and a few projects.

4 cyl MPFI.
Same TBI for the air flow and just remove the injector pod.

The 152

The 196

Nice job, but I have a question. Will the fuel injection make that much differance in the performance on the four cylinders? On your statment about Auto Cad, for a learning leason, you can not dump the math data (DXF file) on a design system and run the program on a CNC Bridgeport. The CNC does not reconize the "Z" axis (depth). I am a Mechanical Designer and use all three of the major design systems. Looking at your blend dish you would deffinatly want to progam that, the ball nose cutter you would be using would be a pain if you were doing it by "turning the handles".

Bill, I got a few questions for you.
I am also curious about performance/fuel economy.
I reckon you have to decide which one is more important for a given application but am still curious if TBI can provide a happy median? Probably a total newbie question, I know, but never denied being just that.
Also, it looks like you cut down the carb base on the intake manifold.
Is that required for clearance or just suggested? I can't quite tell how tall the throttle body is compared to say a Weber conversion with adapter and unmodified intake.
Lastly, I don't recall seeing any air filter assemblies in your V8 kits, is that something Jared and I need to go ahead and figure out? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
PM sent as well.

Performance and fuel mileage gains are always the first questions asked.
Unlike other companies, I do not make any claims or guarantee any specific gains.

The EFI constantly monitors and performs corrections to the AFR so the engine always maintains a correct state of tune.
The timing curve is modified to match the IH engine.
These together "may" lead to increases in both but are not guaranteed.

You will get the ease of use and the driveabilty associated with a modern vehicle.
Starts in any weather and drive.
No more excess fuel dumping down the cylinders and washing the oil film out and contaminating the oil. Both leading to early engine wear.

I am trying to develop bolt on products for the DIY guys.

No machining required to install the adapter.

Air filters are personal preference. The stock IH 4 barrel aircleaner works fine with a little 1/4x20 all thread to make an offset stud.
Summit sells their own brand of offset chrome filter for about $29 in a fairly low profile version.

Bill i know that these are just the prototypes. but in the pics it showed the "extra" material outside of the gasketed surface of the TBI still there. any reason why you didn't trim it off?
i'm hoping its just your focus on function, not form. and lastly, when can i get delivery?
sorry been meaning to call you just never thing about it till an inapropriate time.

Jared,
I was just at the machine shop yesterday finalizing the 2 barrel- 4 cyl adapters.
They have the material in to start the production run but I made one last? change for the run.
Shape...I considered having the shape the same as the gasket. But when talking to the machine shop I found cost is determined by machine run time and the design programming time. I provided a basic drawing with dimensions and they had to convert to 3d cad for the CNC.

By keeping the size a rectangle and just at the outer edges of the gasket surface it cuts down on cost. Function doesn't change.
He can now order a 5" X 1/2" bar stock and produce the 152, 196 and the 2 barrel SV adapters from the same stock.

My latest/fianl change I found while mocking up the prototype is to remove the front corner of the adapter where the heater hose connector screws into the thermostat housing. It's just too close.

The 1 barrel adapter is also in work and should be completed soon but I still need to develop the system for that one.

I'm hoping to have the initial run of 4 cyl adapters within a week or so. They are still working up a price!!!!
