Default Lights come on when battery cable is plugged in

Well, I'm a new person on this forum, and I had a question..I have been rebuilding my rig for the last year and I'm almost finished, but I have an electrical issue I need help with. When I plug in my battery cable, my courtesy lights and tail and front marker lights come on. Every thing else works as is should - starting/charging/headlights/wipers/horn etc. I have checked relays and grounds everywhere I know to check and I can't find anything missing/broken. Also, my turn signals don't work. I installed a new dash and dash wiring harness from scoutparts and I all the new gauges are working as they should.

Any help on troubleshooting this problem would be appreciated!

Have you checked your light switch to see if it has a short in it?

And for the inop blinkers, first make sure you have power going to the switch, then from the switch to the blinker relay. It could be something as simple as a bad blinker relay or a bad fuse, it could be something as aggravating as a bad column switch.

If you don't have a good digital multi-meter, I would suggest picking one up and letting the fun begin.

2X.
It sounds like it is in your switch.
A quick test would be to unplug the headlight switch and see if they go out.
If they do, its in the switch.

78 Scout II. Thanks for the suggestions. I will check my light switch. Would a bad light switch cause the interior courtesy lights to be on?

I believe if you turn the knob all the way counterclockwise it will turn the courtesy lights on. It has been so long since I've turned mine on that I'm not 100% sure on that to be honest.
