Default wiring help

I am rewiring a 73 scout II with a 14 circuit kwikwire harness. I am confused about how to hook up the neutral safety wire and the back up lights wire. I am a rookie and any help would be appreciated!!!!

not sure what you have a problem with? the nuteral safty switch goes to ground. so it breaks the circuit or connects it depending on how its wired in. the switch is either normally open or normally closed. as far as a conector to go right to the switch i don't know of a source for the oe style but if your old one is not destroyed then clean the contacts with a small drill bit and make a good splice on to new wires. as far as the wiring a simple continuity test while moving the shifter in and out of gear will tell you normally open or closed and then wire it in as needed. hope that all makes scence.
if not pm me and we'll get together on it. i see your in conroe?

Hi, I just fixed my backup light circuit, and it was fairly simple.
Just add a switched power wire to one of the outer pins of the switch located at the transmission. The other outer pin on the switch can then be connected to the wire feeding the backup lights, as it will be live when the gear lever is in R-position.
The centre pin is for the neutral safety switch as the previous poster described.

The stock under dash three terminal relay is identical to the horn relay found under the hood. New replacements should be easy to source if your original is missing or faulty.

Thanks for the help

This is what the instructions say

Wire #19 Purple 12 Ga. (Neutral Safety)
Originates from the Ignition switch and connects to the neutral safety switch and then
connect to the start lug on the alternator.

Does the neutral safety wire go to the starter or the alternator?

What is really confusing me is there are three wires and it says the neutral safety wire connects to the switch but what wire do i hook it up to? I thought the two outer ones were for the back up lights and the middle was for the neutral safety. If I hook it up to the middle wire then where do I pick it from to connect to the starter?

Do not follow the directions in the wiring kit that is not for use with the 727 transmission. To hook up the starter circuit you need to use a relay as mentioned. #19 should run to the power "in" on a GM horn relay and the remains of that wire can be used to run from the power "out" to the starter S terminal. Then you need to run a wire from the 3rd or ground terminal on the relay to the center terminal on the Neutral safety/back up lights switch. You can get a replacement pigtail from Napa just as for one for a 70's Chrysler or you can get NOS units from Light Line dealers.

The other 2 pins on the NSS are the back up lights switched power to one and to the back up lights for the other. It does not matter which is which.

I am sure I will have many more questions coming up in the future like I said I am a rookie. It is fun and I think I am getting addicted to the scout rebuild!!!
