Jeep has been running fine for about 2 years. I had a problem last year and I stumbled my way through hooking my jeep up to the computer and finding out that my MAP and O2 sensor was bad. Replaced those and lately my jeep has been stumbling after it was warm. I posted my log file to another site and was suggested that my TPS and IAC needed to be replaced. Did that but still had the same problem. Checked my fuel pressure to the tbi and I'm at 12 pounds. Blew through the return and felt something for a brief second, and I mean brief, so moved on. I did buy a fuel gauge to put on the return line hopefully tomorrow. While tracing the fuel lines back I noticed that the hose clamp on my fuel filter had broke. I replaced that and the fuel filter. The sputtering stopped for a complete day. I was confused by this fixing the problem because when it sputters and finally dies, it is rich. I have to start the motor with the fuel pump off and then turn it on. Today I logged the file below. About half way through it started to sputter and almost die. I pulled over and removed the gas cap and every thing went back to normal. I went into the grocery store for about 5 minutes, came out put the cap on again and drove for about 15 minutes and it drove perfect. Someone please help me. I'm more than willing to do my part. I read the faq and did the initial setup procedures when I replaced my tps and IAC sensor. My jeep drives wonderful from a cold start to warm temperature. Once warm, it sputters and eventually dies. You can smell the gas and see the black smoke so I know it is rich. I've searched here and the internet about trying to read my files below. I have found some basics but I really don't know how one affects the other. I honestly feel like I'm just chasing my tail. I would recommend performing the initial setup procedures from the FAQs first.
If you can not complete them then you know you have a problem. The TPS is not set right and it looks like your map is pretty low. Verify your map source and ensure the map sensor is mounted above the vacuum source. Disconnect the map hose and see if any liquid formed in it. The log was short but you never got to 100 map. Are you located at high altitude? Your log is also incomplete. You should check all the boxes except the raw box.

TPS I'm working on tomorrow. MAP is connected on the rear middle port and is above the tbi. I'm located in Tn so not high altitude. Other than expanding the holes on tps, I followed the FAQ. But I did do this with a clogged fuel filter. I guess I need to start from scratch and fix the tps while I'm there?
I really appreciate the help, if you told me to stand on one foot while starting, I would. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person but I'm learning a lot with my jeep. |

Where is your map vacuum source?
Have you put a gauge on it to verify it or used the parts required thread to check the readings?

Bill I looked in the FAQ and searched this site but can't seem to find the parts required thread. Do you have a link?

If you look right above this post there is a post with the little yellow sign that says FAQ Start Here.
When you open that thread you will see a header: TBI and under it, it says what parts do I need. If you continue further down the page you will see the initial setup procedures. You will need that one also. You may want to review some of the others just to make sure your system is actually installed correctly.

So long week at work this week. I'm going tomorrow morning to make sure my timing is set properly. I don't have a timing light but I have a friend that does and I'll completely follow the setup procedures outlined in the FAQ.
I checked all of my connections and put a fuel gauge on my return line and I'm sitting at zero which is good. I took it for a drive tonight and logged the data below. At no time did I ever have my sputtering problem when warm. I'll log again after I ensure my timing is on and I lower my TPS sensor to within the stated range. But based on this run, is there anything popping out as a problem that I should look at with my friend whose more mechanically savvy than I? Ok I went and got help today on the initial setup.
1. My timing was set at 3 so I was a little advance. We moved the timing back to 0. 2. Setup my IAC and was idling around 520 3. TPS was setup just shy of .6V 4. Fuel pressure in 12 fuel pressure out 0 I hooked it up to the computer again and ran around for about 25 minutes. During that time, absolutely no sputtering or funny business when it reached temperature. I still don't know why it is all of a sudden running properly even yesterday before making the changes today. The only thing I really did was disconnect the computer to reset all the codes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the computer stores the error codes from previous runs not actual values that it has used to compensate for the pervious run. For example if it made adjustments for the MAP sensor being below the TBI and I realized it needed to be above the TBI and switched it, it would not be using the settings from the TBI being low? Sorry if that is a dumb question, I'm completely new to fuel injection and this type of mechanical knowledge. LOG http://www.acclivityphotography.com/...131935_LOG.txt BLM http://www.acclivityphotography.com/...140123_BLM.txt So after reviewing the above, does anyone see anything alarming? |

Get the initial set up don and set properly.
The TPS is high and the IAC is still going to 0 warm. Fuel table still needs some adjustment but not real bad. Are you sure you have 11-12psi under a load. The fuel gets leaner the fast you go.

When you disconnect the battery the computer looses its learned adjustments, in this case the BLM or long term fuel trim.
Having your MAP sensor mounted "low" wont affect how it runs. The only reason to mount it so that the vacuum line is sloping down to the engine is so that condensation drains back into the engine. The only time condensation actually causes a problem is when there is a lot of it and the temp drops below freezing and if the vacuum hose has a droop in it where the condensation can form a blockage preventing the MAP from sensing the vacuum. |
