Default Does not seem right

So looking at my traveler today I noticed something that seemed very odd. The PO added a 4" lift to it, but mounted the leaf springs under the axle. Which kills my underneath clearance. Looking at Bill's install guide in the knowledge section his springs are mounted on top.

So is the lift properly mounted or seriously screwed up? The scout in question is a 1977 traveler with a 345 auto 4wd.

From the factory the springs are under the axle,if you buy a 4 inch lift kit the new springs go under the axle also.Bill has whats called a spring over, you get 4 to 5 inches of lift using the factory springs by mounting them on top of the axles(this is not a just bolt on thing, alot of welding, grinding and fab work)
So your lift is correct
Jeff

All Scout suspensions were spring under axle from the factory. After market lift springs are also primarily meant to be installed under the axle. As already mentioned, relocating the spring above the axle is a common modification that many Scout owners have undertaken. An SOA conversion using stock springs nets approximately 5.5 inches of lift. So the same process using 4 inch lift springs would be nearly 10 inches of suspension lift. Awful stinkin' high in the air. Makes for a real nice center of gravity.
