1980 sd33t - just bought it. Under the hood, I noticed a bunch of blackish looking marks. pretty light at first. They started just over where the AC belt runs, so i figured maybe the belt was throwing off dust. Then, I noticed that it got more, and moved closer to being over the injection pump. At the same time, I noticed some runs in the staining where it ran down the curve at the front of the hood, so the spot expanded back towards the injection pump, and forward towards the grill. Anyone else seen this? I figure maybe a fine diesel mist is hitting the hood, and then dirt is getting on it, turning it black. But, I have no idea how to figure out where it's coming from. It doesn't seem to happen at idle or even if I rev the engine with the hood open. But, i don't want to leave it alone, because if the fuel lines are going bad, inevitably I'll be stranded. Any help would be welcome, Ikavo |

Folks,
In the spirit of adding to the database, I believe I've isolated the fuel mist/spray to the fuel filter mounted on the injection pump, or the feed line too it. So, I wrapped both in foil, and intend to see which piece of foil gets messed up. Kinda hoping its the fuel fileter, since I know what to do about that (new gaskets). Will report back more later.... Mine sprayed a fine mist (and eventually a geyser). It turned out to be the fuel return line from the filter housing to the tank. The PO had spliced in some rubber fuel line on the tank end. When they tightened the fuel tank, the line was squeezed flat between the tank and the bottom of the bed. There was no relief for the pressure built up in the system. It was an easy fix!
Good luck and welcome! |

Folks,
I posted earlier about light underhood fuel spray. It turns out it wasn't a fuel return issue, it's those 32 year old hoses. Running the engine with the hood open, I could see the thick hoses from the lift pump part of the injection pump to the fuel filter, and from the fuel filter to the injection part of the pump sweating. I need to get new hoses, but no-one in Durango makes them. Does anyone have the hoses I'm talking about, even rotten, so I can send them away to have new ones made? I can't send mine out, because then I wouldn't be able to get to work! Any help or other ideas would be welcome too... - Ikavo |

Sorry for a duplicate post, but wanted all the related threads to have the relevant information:
These hoses are available from Titan Equipment, in Colorado Springs Discount Forklifts in Miami Kranlyft in the UK (kranlyft.co.uk). |
