You can also get the nuts off the u-bolts at the transfer case using a regular box end wrench and a large screwdriver or small pry bar. Your lock out hubs on the front axle should be in the open position (not locked) and your transfer case in 2WD or neutral. Put the box end wrench on the nut on the u-bolt at the transfer case and then stick the screwdriver through the u-joint attached to the axle differential, the drive shaft should still be attached to the differential. Use the screwdriver to turn the drive shaft, when the wrench hits the transfer case (or frame) the nut will turn. Just be sure to rotate the drive shaft to match whether you want to loosen or tighten the nut at the transfer case. Of course once the nut is loosened enough you just take it off with your fingers.
