Default Removal of front driveshaft

I am removing the front driveshaft and have a few questions...
Was able to get the bent u-bolts out of the pinion yoke, the slip yoke off, clean out the "slime" in it, and find that the yoke is cracked/missing metal on the ears.....
I can't get to the bolts in the yoke on the transfer case. Can I remove the trans mount and crossmember to do this? Do I just support the trans with a jack while I have the crossmember off?
The driveshaft has a weld on it (see pic), was this done to balance it???

Also, any recommendations on a replacement trans mount?...Poly/Rubber/RPT??

Thanks!

Hey Scooter, if your talking about the bolts for the u-joint on the transfer case (front) I aways reached in from the back over the transfer case. You can only do 1 bolt at a time, so each bolt you have to turn the drive shaft. Tight fit but it can be done.

The easiest way I know of is to buy an offset box wrench, put it in your vice, heat it up and bend it to the shape needed to clear the crossmember. Or, cut the head off the wrench, bend a steel bar to shape and weld it to the box head
Its a one use tool but it works and you'll be glad you have it when it's needed

How would I replace the transmission mount then? and any recommendations on a replacement? Have heard mixed reviews of the RPT mounts....

I used the poly style of the OE. (Automatic 2 speed T/C)

Pretty simple. Unbolt and used a floor jack just enough to get the top bushing out. Be careful with the sleeves between the bushings and bolts.

It took less than an hour. It's the same bushing IH used as a front motor mount. So easy to find.

RPT is very high quality. And if for some reason it goes bad they are rebuildable. I would highly recommend them. Just make sure you get the correct one for your application.

Thanks.
I have a few other other RPT parts and have been pleased with them, definitely high quality. Just wanted to get some feedback before spending $$.

Thanks again for the help...was able to take the bolts off the u-joint today and the get the entire driveshaft out.
Lucky me, the yoke at the TC was cracked as well.
Where can I get a yoke for the D300?? Is it the same as the D44 pinion yoke?
Also, anyone have the part number for the output seal, may change it while I am at it too
