Default 1973 scout II

just got my 1973 road worthy and was wanting more power. It has a factory 304 that is all original....truck sat for 10 years.

Does a Chrysler engine have the same bolt pattern as an International? I was thinking of a 318 or 360 swap.

Thanks
Rick

You don't want to send a boy to do a man's work. That's what you'd be doing by re-powering with a small block Chry-baby, even if it were a bolt-in option. The IH 304 is a truck engine. It isn't a barn-burner, but it was engineered to move heavy loads at a moderate speed all day long, day after day after live-long day. Did you tune this engine at all, or just kick the tires and light the fires?

---What you're considering would be what I'd do if there was no other choice. Second choice would be a Ford 302 or bastardized 351. Wise choices & anything would be better than the mouse motor for sure... besides the fact that MOPARs have some strong blocks like ours.

---Haven't done it myself, don't know if yours is manual or auto. I would think if manual, you could bolt the Spicer/Dana/Muncie to the MOPAR bellhousing, but you'd most likely have to do something about space between the two or length, diameter & splines of the output shaft.
