OK I just fished out a whole rod (not broken) BENT just slightly ??? probably just went un-noticed It is VER SLIGHT.....do you think think this slight bend would cause it to pop out? I worked crank nut and all other valves seem to be opening and closing smoothly and properly

Im hoping that it was just the rod going un-noticed and then popped out

What do you think?

I think Harvester motors don't like to be over reved, I can't imagen you did that with a braker bar Look to how the lifters are installed and be sure and break the engine in carefully.

Replace the bent push rods, once bent they will tend to rebend even if you get them straight, cheap at Napa or Car quest.

Go back to the beginning of the thread, and whoever said that the pushrod wasn't seated properly in either the lifter or the rocker is probably the winner. Replace it, you've already made sure the other ones are OK, button it up and hopefully have no more issues.

I should have worded things better. I meant to say my reply did not have anything to do with the pushrod issue. When I read it over, it sounded like I was saying that the bolts caused the problem which is not what I meant and is at least 99% unlikely to be the cause of the pushrod issue.

Is it possible the long bolt length interfered with the push rod as it went through its travel and forced it to bend, then pop out of its seats?

my parts manual states 8,-1" bolt's,4,-1-1/4" bolts,4,-1-1/2" bolts.for the intake manifold.you want them at least 1/4" away from the push rods.i believe the 2 center bolts on each side are the 1-1/2" bolts, jeff( 3 different sizes) ALL bolts have washers also.the 345 i just tore down didn't have washer's on the 2 lifting hooks.jeff

I think someone installed installed the rocker shafts without lining up the timing marks.
Line up the timing marks before unbolting the rocker shafts.
Replace all pushrods and make sure timing marks are aligned before installing rocker shafts.
See FSM for more details.

---Honestly? A rebuilder should have a warranty so I don't know why you're troubling yourself with it unless it was a friend who did it off the clock, which in most states is illegal from an insurance aspect. Having manuals open to walk one through the job is the first lesson in automotive. Just for the simple reason of what was said here...

---That's a good point that I don't often see mentioned. You rotate (only ever, the clockwise direction) the crank until the edge of the balancer is on 0 IIRC, but consult your manuals for a true quote.

---The reason being is that this will be the lowest position on all camshaft lobes, thus it will be the least amount of pressure on the valve train. Manuals would have stated this.

---If it hasn't been suggested yet, it would be best to check all* pushrods for straightness and replace all that are bent even the slightest bit.

---Lube all parts with something like TB Zinc Plus, if not a standard assembly lube. Some people even use Vaseline, but not me. I use what I want my oil to have in it... and I use 30W oil. If it's new, rebuilt, whatever, I hope you didn't listen to xxW50, cause 50W has never been called for in our engines. Never.
