One other place to check on these rigs is the line for the windshield wipers. The leak could actually be originating behind the dashboard where a line has come loose from the wiper motor, or had a small critter such as a mouse chew a hole thru it.
Carb seems to be secure to the manifold, no open ports that I can find, Vacuum advance line is intact, but the fitting at the distributor does seem to be loose....

The wipers have be converted and are no longer vacuum operated.

So the trouble is all related to the carb.

Full choke on and floor pedal to run could imply the carb is clogged up, fuel not flowing out of the jets. I would do a complete dissasembly to verify all the passages and make it function properly.
The carb was freshly rebuilt, tanks have been drained, fresh fuel, 2 inline filters that both look very clean. I understand that it doesnt take much to clog these carbs, so I will try this next if there isn't another solution....

This is a shot in the dark, but when I was getting mine going, it would never run for more than 15 seconds. I discovered that the engine ground strap from the block to the firewall was disconnected. Once I reattached that, it was off to the races...well, off to the next issue anyway.

From your pics, it looks like yours is in place, but I think there is another engine ground, I just can't remember where.

Good luck!! Nice looking rig, BTW!!

BINGO! This guy knows things....

It seemed to have fixed the choke problem, and not it will run without the choke, however, it is spitting and backfiring through the carb now.

That should have said that it will now run without the choke on.

With the backfiring throught the carb, would that be a timing issue?

More than likely it is a timing issue. It could be other things, but start there first. Just loosen the distributor and turn it one way or another and see if things improve. I am assuming that you don't have a timing light.

Be careful though, especially if the wires are old, as it will bite you. I usually make adjustments with the engine off until I get it close.

Did you cap off the line to the distributor or did you just seal the threads?

Yes, your timing is probably off. It should be about 7-8 degrees.

I have new points, condensor, rotor, cap, wires, and plugs.

I sealed the threads and sealed where the hard wire goes onto the nut where it screws onto the dist..

I don't have a timing light....
